It was just amazing! I don't think I've come across such a gripping book since a long time. At no point does the plot become a drag.

message 1859: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Caste by Elizabeth Wilkerson. This is such an important book, thoroughly researched and documented. The author is a Pulitzer Prize winner, the book a page-turning work of nonfiction. Caste has expanded and changed the way I see the world, and how I see current news events. I will probably think about it every day of my life. Highly recommended to all.

I agree Katie. I read that and it was a very educational book to understand what was called "the great migration" of African Americans from the south and where they settled in the North and Northwest. It follows stories of real folks whose families made this journey.

Rebecca Bruce (goodreadscomrebecca_bruce) | 3 comments I have read so many the most recent was Small great Things by Jodi Picoult. Very good read. I like to try new Authors and I love Historical/Fiction. It has some historical events and facts but the story line can be murderous, thrilling, romantic, educational or just comical...it is fictional so you can go in so many directions. I am a fan and a writer of Historical/fiction. IRISH BONES

Tiffany (audiolistener) | 3 comments Im reading Fly Away by Kristin Hannah

message 1884: by Diana (new)

Diana Paul | 10 comments Just about finished with In This Land of Plenty by Mary Smathers and Modern Lovers by Emma Straub. I am also re-reading my first novel, Things Unsaid, as I polish my second novel which picks up five years after Things Unsaid ends. With a continuation of the multigenerational Whitman/Foster family saga, the drama has evolved into a murder mystery: What did actually happen to Professor Schlepp at the end of Jules Foster's career as a professor? Secrets, lies and karma still shadow the main characters as they try to go on with their lives -no matter how damaging that can be.

I've had this on my to-read list, I just keep hearing different opinions on it. Some have told me it's great but then others say it's not good/doesn't really apply to married moms. But I think I'll have to give it a try.

message 1893: by Heather (new)

Heather (momof5monkeys) | 5 comments Salt to the Sea by Ruta Septesys . . . . I read Shades of Gray a couple of months ago and loved it

message 1894: by Laura (new)

Laura Nasoulinh (lauranasoulinh) | 123 comments Heather, I'm a married mom and I find it speaking to me. Maybe it's because I already feel this way, but if anything its more about being true to yourself. my friend had started it and didn't like it. She felt that she was preaching about being gay, but I don't find it that way. I also feel that not every book speaks to everybody.
