That’s my thinking, too, Charlene. He knew Wyatt was out of control and the end was near. He’d been willing to misdirect Adam but letting him get killed must have been more than his conscience could bear.
Agree. John wasn't going to come out of this without serious problems, and that's if Wyatt let him live. He did the honorable thing is taking the bullet for Adam.
Basically I think John had probably been a good man throughout his life. Not excusing him but he must have been desperate when his wife was sick and Wyatt reeled him in. He would have known the awful carnage his weakness had caused and I'd like to think it was his conscience finally pushing him to do the right thing and saving Adam.
