The Eustace Diamonds - Reading Schedule

Hello and welcome to the third novel in the Palliser series. We will begin discussing the week of April 15th and will spread the reading over 10 weeks, ending late June. We will read at the rate of about 65 pages/week (in my edition) so I've gone by pages rather than chapter numbers.

April 15-21: Chapters 1-8
Apr 22-28: Chapters 9-16
Apr 29-May 5: Chapters 17-23
May 6-12: Chapters 24-32
May 13-19: Chapters 33-40
May 20-26: Chapters 41-48
May 27-June 2: Chapters 49-56
June 3-9: Chapters 57-64
June 10-16: Chapters 65-72
June 17-23: Chapters 73-80

I look forward to reading and discussing this novel with you over the next 10 weeks.

It seems like Trollope was cutting them in blocks at this point.

You were going by page numbers, and the schedule came to eight chapters each.

I'd say there's nothing wrong with that, except that from what I remember of this (altogether worthwhile) book, there are some sections which are obviously 'padding.'

You're right-I did all that counting and apart from one slight variation in weeks 3 and 4 I might as well have gone with 8 chapters a week.

I'm just starting and I'm very relieved that each section is almost always 8 chapters. I much prefer the same # of chapters as it keeps me from getting confused, a state which comes easily to me.

It's a relief to me, too! After so many years of dance classes, I can only count to eight! :D

This is good to know-I've always tried to go more on page numbers than chapters but if it's simpler to go by chapter numbers (or Book 1, book 2 etc if they're subdivided that way) I'll consider that for the next book.

Chapters are probably better because different editions will have different page numbers.

Sorry, I meant try to have us read approximately the same number of pages/week, but I'd still list it by chapters.

Trollope readers-when would people like to start the next novel, Phineas Redux? Would you like to
a) Start early July, a couple of weeks after finishing The Eustace Diamonds.
b) take a summer break, and start in early September.
