It's great I guess. I don't write on an actual notebook-risk of being read is higher for me, I write on a word doc, one for each year.
Although I've not really written much this year :)

I used to write in a word doc too. The problem was I hardly ever wrote in it anymore. What changed was that I would take notes on books I read with a pen a paper, and one day I wondered why my book note-taking was so frequent and my journaling not at all. I figured that writing by hand may have been more convenient and relaxing and seem less like work or a chore. So I tried it and have been doing it that way ever since.

I agree with you. It's easier-maybe that's why I don't type much (considering the last couple of months), but I have suffered before. Twice my diary was read, and I hated those moments.
So, I can't really do that unless I find myself a safe!
I wish people would try and respect other's privacy.

That's unfortunate. Sorry about that. The problem with convenience is that it can also be conveniently read as well. Luckily for me no one cares at all to read what I journal :)

Thanks I guess. Well, you sure are lucky in this respect. Hope no one pries into your personal thoughts and feelings :)

I completely understand you. I hate it, it's awful. I wish everyone would just stop doing that!
It hurts to destroy your journal💔, the only thing that really knows you, but I hope you'd write again.🖤🖤
You could try it as I do, maybe it'll work for you too.
Everything is safe in the brain but sometimes our brain isn't. It needs to let go of so much, and writing helps if we have no one to share it with.

Well, when I shared with my siblings, I stored the stuff in a usb-and try to put a password on it if you can.
The zap thing might be a problem if you have to type into it daily, but maybe if you are used to it, it won't be a problem.

I'd love to keep a diary, but 2 of my little sisters are noisy little creatures that love to know my secrets so they can blackmail me. A word document isn't working for me, I tried it...

Oops :/
It's annoying, isn't it? Having nosy little siblings?
Mine always wanted a chance to read mine-I couldn't write anything freely, but word works for me.
I wish it could work for you too!

I have the memory of an elephant, I don't forget, well scratch that, I forget things that I want to forget.
Oh awesome really! I don't forget much tbh-If anything, I forget things that I mustn't forget. But they come back to me eventually, I'm bad at forgetting :/
I started in April 1989. I started off writing every day, but now I type in it about once a week. I forget things I need to go back and insert, and I like to edit it. I print it periodically.

I started in 2015-the real one-the ones before that were caught so I stopped-and I don't edit, I promised it that I won't-so whatever I feel, it stays there the same. I never print-danger of being read!
I forget to go back there too-been through so much with my journal, but I forget sometimes.

Idk it's technology or procrastination when it comes to me, though I'm pretty sure it's procrastination!

I have tried, but it doesn't last long. I'm too lazy to commit to it and I have a lot of trouble writing out my thoughts and feelings lol
It’s not super personal most of the time; it’s mostly an accounting of stuff I did. The habit is too ingrained to quit.
Aqsa wrote: "I haven't written any entry in my journal for months now. Gotta get to it!"That's great, all the best with that! It's one of those thing that's easy to neglect unless you make a habit of it. I'd say a little bit every day helps, even if it's not much more than a few sentences.

Yes agreed. The thing is when I get to it, I wanna write too much and then end up not completing the entry. And I always feel like I need proper time for that and then that proper time never comes lol.

This thread has made me so sad. I am so sorry all of you have had problems with people reading your journals. I have kept written journals for years and no one has bothered them. Maybe I am just to boring to merit the time it would take to snoop. I haven't written in a while (need a new journal, yes I use a physical one) and I can really tell. I need someplace for my thoughts. I love having the opportunity to go back and read, my past makes me stronger for my future and sometimes I need to remember.
No, you just have better understanding people who don't try to read your personal stuff.
I really like a physical one more than the other.
I love being able to go back and read my own words again. Sometimes it's difficult to believe that I wrote it all.

Writing by hand commits things to memory.I've been keeping a diary since 2013. I write every day. My brothers used to snoop, but now I have developed a VERY effective way to keep snoopers away. Hide your diary in your underwear drawer! No one wants to look in there, so they don't! And then your diary is safe! Genius! And, I'll admit, weird. Sorry. Oh well. I'm just a weird person.
I love the idea of writing in a journal! But for some reason, I never carve out the time to actually write in mine. The physical ones are so beautiful though. Makes me wish I have been good at writing in them and had a whole library of completed journals.
@Shannara, I guess you'll get better at writing more often if you try.
I wish I had a library of my journals too!
I've started using a physical again. No one knows so hopefully no one will try to read it.

@Ellie, me too!
I have 2 for poetry. They have collections of the ones I loved. I don't usually write myself. I have several art journals. And now after years, I've started using a physical journal for feeling again.

@Aqsa I write on a word doc as well, one from every year. And yep, I had the same problem, with my sister always trying to read my journal when I wrote in a notebook. I loved the physical act of writing on a notebook but it got too risky to put down my innermost thoughts on paper. So now I've gone completely digital and password-protected everything. I can write whatever I want and I feel free that way. I have a diary app on my phone that I jot down in on days when I don't journal on my laptop.
@Lyn
Too similar, won't you say?
I am trying to come back to physical journals though. I'm trying not to jot anything down in it in front of others and no one might know.
At least so I hope.

I keep books every year of every book that I read so have full record of every book I have read every month. I give awards such as a Hankie award for comedy because have stick hankie in your mouth to stop laughing. The Headache award for the book that Gave me a headache.
The Bullshit award
The toilet paper because that's whats fit for.
Others too & the Top Book as well as an award that isn't given every year The Tolkien award for book that Is good as...
That's quite interesting Stephen. I'm afraid I only have GR to record my reading progress. Though I've thought about having an other place for it.
I like the names of your awards. Which category has the most awards?

Nothing to be afraid of GR ll keep your record till you want to keep it .Yeah if u want to keep this record anywhere else thats not the bad idea . hahaa stephen your awards names are hilarious . I like your idea of giving award names to the books to keep the record of your reading books :) .
The people who want to keep their reading record somewhere else other than GR i have a idea for them. You can take a paper make a list of your reading books with date at which you read and finished the book. And make a column to rate the book of out 10 and what you felt after reading this book. In this way you can save your reading progress other than GR. Hope this ll help you all. IF it does let me know about it.
