I can't for the life of me remember this book, it's been bugging me for years.
I first read it prior to 2007, but I'm not sure when it was published. Could be categorized as fiction or romance maybe.

This girl wakes up in a psychiatric hospital located near the ocean with amnesia. She was in a boating accident with her boyfriend (presumed dead), but everyone tells her she's crazy. She's suspicious that someone is lying to her about what happened and how she lost her memory. She also has some problems with the hospital staff. She tries to escape but I think is unsuccessful. I don't remember how it ends. Something to do with her grandmother lying to her to keep her in the hospital comes to mind, but don't quote me on that. Not totally sure if she was imagining the boyfriend all along and is crazy - or if someone was lying to her. Wish I could remember more. Thanks in advance.

I feel like the setting was probably in New England somewhere... the boat from the accident - caused by a storm - would've been a sailboat (as opposed to a speedboat) and the girl was pretty young - late teens or early 20's. I think the hospital staff was instructed (by the grandmother?) to convince the girl she was crazy and imagined the whole accident, the boyfriend, etc.
