The soldier was in Russia (possibly being held captive), and then somehow they extract information, and he dies. The US labeled him as a traitor, and his wife is upset at the lack of details she receives about what happen to him. She writes a letter or poses a letter through her daughter, and submits it for a contest or something to be invited to a meet and greet with the president. She is able to meet him, but then the US is under attack by Russia. A nuclear attack happens, and the wife, daughter, president, and secret service escape to a shuttle and go to space.
