Yeah Natasha! I think we will likely find some cross-over between the challenges and BINGO. I seem to have some catch up in the earlier years.
Good idea. There are 5 I haven't read (see below) but I have the books sitting on my shelves. I will read Next Episode and Nikolski in French though.2. Next Episode
3. The Last Crossing
4. Rockbound
7. King Leary
9. Nikolski
I only have 8 unread, which I think is pretty good considering I've only gotten into Canadian literature these last few years.
I have only read three on the list, but most of the others on my TBR. I am going to read the five from this year's shortlist first, but I do plan at plugging away at these as well.
Wow. I got some reading to do:2. Next Episode
3. The Last Crossing
4. Rockbound
5. A Complicated Kindness
7. King Leary
8. The Book of Negroes - started never finished
9. Nikolski
10. The Best Laid Plans - secret santa gift i need to read

15. The Illegal - started never finished
Have read:5. A Complicated Kindness
6. Lullabies for Little Criminals

These are the the ones I haven't read:1. In the Skin of the Lion
2. Next Episode
3. The Last Crossing
4. Rockbound
7. King Leary
@ Susan this is a great idea.
@ Rainey I listened to The Illegal on audiobook and recommend the audio version.

Thank you. Will check out the audio.
Funny because just this week I went and searched up the top 5 annually and the winners and charted them all geekily in my reading journal to keep track . I've read 10 of the winners.
I have been wanting to do exactly this, these are the ones I still need to read.1. In the Skin of the Lion
2. Next Episode
3. The Last Crossing
4. Rockbound
7. King Leary
9. Nikolski
10. The Best Laid Plans
Interesting that ALL of us who have posted our plans have NOT read these 4 books:Next Episode
The Last Crossing
Rockbound
King Leary
Good observation @louise! I tried to read Rockbound in the past and got maybe 30 pages in and snapped it shut. It's a tough, old world style book. Would have been interesting to understand the debates that year (it beat out Atwood!).I haven't read:
1. In the Skin of the Lion
2. Next Episode
7. King Leary
9. Nikolski
10. The Best Laid Plans
11. Something Fierce
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_...of interest, if you're further curious here's where I found the shortlist of each year too (didn't find it on the CR site)
I have to read: In the Skin of the Lion
Next Episode
The Last Crossing
Rockbound
A Complicated Kindness
King Leary
Nikolski
Something Fierce
February (Half done)
The Orenda
Fifteen Dogs
I have what may be a stupid question. Is King Leary based on King Lear? A quick Google isn’t proving helpful. That’s one Shakespeare play I know nothing about. I’m thinking of reading King Leary soon, but I’m wondering if I should read the play first (and an internet summary of course!)?
Ann-Marie wrote: "I think it's actually a hockey themed book?"Yes, it's about an old hockey star, but I was wondering why it's called King Leary if it's not alluding to King Lear. No biggie. I'll read a synopsis of the play before I start the book, just to be sure. I do have a complete works of Shakespeare kicking around somewhere.... I just might dig it out!
If anyone wants just a little more celebration of Canada Reads. Here is the streaming of the After Canada Reads presentation at the FOLD. Kim, Loretta and I were very happy to be in the audience at the FOLD festival in Brampton.
