This is a thread to discuss the history of start-ups and some of the very interesting founders and investors.

Some examples of entrepreneurs who invest in start-ups are Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, Kevin O'Leary, Richard Branson.

Some of the more successful startups have been Dropbox, Uber, Airbnb, Pinterest, SpaceX, WeWork, Snap, Palantir, Xiaomi.

One of my favorite recent start-up stories is a pitch to Sharktank called DoorBot. It was turned down by Cuban, John, etc. I think it was mainly because he wanted a large investment and wasn't willing to give up much equity.

There is a video of the pitch here, but it doesn't show the negotiation (I wish ABC would put more Sharktank content online).

DoorBot was rebranded as Ring and became pretty successful.

3 weeks ago Amazon bought it for $1 billion.

Did not know that - very interesting. About Ring.

Eileen | 254 comments I did not know that either. I have watched many episodes of Sharktank but missed that one. Very interesting.
