Forgetful | 3 comments I've read this book 12 years ago. The heroine had to pretend to be ugly to protect herself. I think the person who she's protecting herself from lusts after her mother and that she'll be as beautiful as her when she grows up.

She disguises herself by pretending to have a hunched back, limp and stutter. Then she color/covers her hair with mud and wears ugly/baggy clothes.

A few years later she gets betrothed to a handsome man/knight. The hero/fiance sees her without her disguise the first time in the forest as a beautiful woman. Obviously, he doesn't know it is her and they continue to meet in the forest.

They get married and the hero realizes she's the woman in the forest. On their wedding night the heroine gets kidnapped by the villain and the hero rescues/helps her.

Lb (lbunny) | 7 comments This sounds like Angel of the Knight to me, too. No stutter, though. Does Lady Wren sound familiar? Or being a healer?

What I remembered was that part of her disguise had to do with speech difficulty. Name's familiar and I remember her helping a village and being a bit of a healer.

Thank you too!
