New to Play Book Tag?
Welcome in, LibraryNerd! Another fantasy reader here (among other things) and I get hooked on series too. Though I also get distracted easily so I don’t always see the series all the way through even when I mean to! Yes to Eddings, all the way. The Belgariad was my entry drug too (such fabulous dialogue). I’m currently hanging out for the final book in the Mistwraith series by Janny Wurts, and will then probably read them all again from the beginning.
Welcome to the group Librarynerd! Mysteries are my definite go-to. I can't say I am fond of fantasy but you will find a lot of those who love it in this group. Have fun!
Librarynerd ( loves books in a series) wrote: "Would anyone be interested in a Belgariad buddy read since there is so many of us who love Eddings?"As much as i liked it. I won't reread it. Nothing personally. there are very few things I will re-read
Welcome, Librarynerd! I loved the Belgariad in my youth, and still do, but I am sad that the rest of his books were just a rehash of the same themes and plots. But I have found many many wonderful fantasy authors (it's my favorite genre) through this group!I just read your original post, and we have the same favorite genres - fantasy, sci-fi and mysteries! Looking forward to your reviews and recommendations!
Bookish KLOU wrote: "Hey - I'm new here, is this group still active as I'd love to get involved"Oh we're very very active! Welcome! Would recommend reading the first posts for each topic as a way to get some footing on what's happening.
Bookish KLOU wrote: "Hey - I'm new here, is this group still active as I'd love to get involved"We are active and many of our members read a lot.
Our tag for May will be announced tomorrow, but you still have time to vote for it.

Oh you have fallen into a total community here! And we love new members. Feel free to dip your toes in or dive or lurk or jump. We have monthly tags, two year long challenges each year, a couple of optional extra challenges as well, and a whole lot of fun. Welcome BK. And whatever the "tag of the month" is, it will be fun.
Welcome! there are lots of different opportunities for participation here. As far as Tag of the Month, there is no requirement, but you do accumulate some points if you read and review books that fit it. Feel free to join in any discussions about books or what's going on in your life. You can even comment on an older thread, for instance a Buddy Read from a while ago, and we will see the post. If you have a chunk of free time, you can even read through earlier introductions of members. This is how Theresa and I found out that we grew up approximately 5 miles from each other, though in different states, so we had never crossed paths!
Bookish KLOU wrote: "Hey - I'm new here, is this group still active as I'd love to get involved"VERY active and we welcome new members. Jump right in, the water's fine!
Active? I don't think we know how to be inactive, LOL! Welcome KLou! I joined in August 2018 and started just with monthly then jumped into a buddy read started up by Amy. Coming up in july is a one month challenge called Christmas in July --just for fun and run by me who loves reading Christmas set fiction year round and always have a craving for them in July.
Yes, Robin and I discovered we were country neighbors ... though we never met. BooknBlues also grew up in that general area though not as close. But for PBT, we would never have met.
I live in NYC now - came for college and never left. Lookingforward to getting to know you and your reading.
Hi and welcome Bookish KLOU! This is such a friendly, welcoming group and super active. Jump on in!!
Bookish KLOU wrote: "Hey - I'm new here, is this group still active as I'd love to get involved"Welcome! Not only is this group active, it's managed to stay large and active for well over 10 years (it started on Shelfari.) One of the many things I like about it is the flexibility of what we can read.
Just joining after reading Absolution and seeing some discussion about that book in this group. I am eager to join a book discussion group to kick start me back into reading more than I have been lately.
Welcome, Dolly! You have found a great group. One way to leap into book discussion is to join a biddy read - it worked for me when I joined. They are found in the Footnotes discussions. New ones will be posted this weekend as we all start reading a new monthly tag or Unofficial Trim pick. I will open one for Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table, for example.
Theresa wrote: "Welcome, Dolly! You have found a great group. One way to leap into book discussion is to join a biddy read - it worked for me when I joined. They are found in the Footnotes discussions. New ones wi..."Lol, Theresa, for some of us mature ladies it is a "biddy" read.
An amazing thing about this group is that a few of us have met up in real life, including Theresa and me, who grew up within about 5 miles of each other but never crossed paths since there was a state line in between - until we met here at PBT.
Welcome Dolly, jump into any conversation or buddy read (or if you are one of us mature ladies, as Robins says start a "biddy" read).
Welcome, Dolly! Jump right in, this is a friendly group and it will expand your reading horizons. There's no pressure to play the games, just have fun!
Welcome, Dolly. This is a fun group with a long history for an internet group, more than 15 years now. I was just a young thing when it began, but I guess I've reached 'biddy' status by now.

Yes, Robin and I literally grew up within about 10 miles of each other - and in fact I'm going to be 'just down the road' - like a mile - from Robin's childhood sheep farm when I attend a Reunion on my maternal family side in August. It's also 'just over the hill' from the farm I grew up on - which was all of a mile from the state line.
It's one of the joys of PBT - the friendships developed, the links we share.
Dolly we are a diverse neat really fun group of authentic folks. And I think one thing we love about this particular group that makes it special is the community we’ve built across different ages and cultures and lifestyles and other kinds of diversity and all around the world. I could be wrong, but I think our experience here in this group is rather unique to good rates. Or I haven’t explored so much. But we do look forward to getting to know you.

Much credit to the Mods and other long-time members.
Yes! This group is more than 15 years old (started on Shelfari) and how many groups this old still have so many active threads/messages? It's amazing.
Hi, I'm Liz! I've been on Goodreads for several years but I haven't had a lot of reading time over the past few years. I'm now rediscovering the site and was intrigued when I stumbled across this group. Would love to join in.
Welcome! You will find us quite the merry little band of readers! Tell us a little about yourself and what you like to read. I'm in NYC - a lawyer who is a pretty eclectic reader but particularly love mystery and books with a Christmas setting - romance and cozy mysteries especially. I also belong to one IRL book club called Femnerdy Book Club where we read and discuss SFF from a strong gender and feminist perspective. I also read classics, doorstoppers, but mostly fiction.
Hi, Liz! We're a very friendly and welcoming group. I'm in "flyover" country ... Wisconsin to be exact. I'm retired from a career in health care administration. Love reading (obviously) and talking about books with friends - in real life and on line!Jump right in, the water's fine!
Welcome Liz, we are always glad to see new members. Our tag for July is Debut authors. You can find debut books here:https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
and also members suggestions which are in this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
There is no requirement that you read a book for the tag of the month.
We have readers of all sorts and from around the world.
I'm originally from upstate NY and now live in the Sacramento Valley.
Liz, you found a great community! Welcome. We all look forward to getting to know you. Me - Singing Psychologist from New England. Mother of 3. Aspiring Writer and Francophile.

Singing Psychologist sounds like you sing to your clients/patients - could be a great new therapy!
I have been a teacher, manager, salesperson, and public speaker. Enjoying retirement and more time to read books. I only live about an hour and a half from Book Concierge, so we have been able to meet up in person.
Hi Liz! We are glad to have you here with us. This is such a fun, active and welcoming group. Enjoy yourself!
Welcome Liz! I live about an hour North of Detroit. I am a big reader of Fantasy, but my scope of reading has expanded since joining this group. Everyone here is wonderful, and it is a very supportive group when you just need to chat (see the link "Footnotes"). Looking forward to more reviews and chatting.
Robin P wrote: "Singing Psychologist sounds like you sing to your clients/patients - could be a great new therapy!..."LOL!
Welcome, Liz (and Dolly). I'm in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and I'm a librarian with 3 cats. I also volunteer with cats and on facebook for a local Lost & Found pets page.
Despite being a bit of a distance away, I was in Minneapolis for a conference in May and met Robin in person for food and a nice chat, as well. (I have previously met two other PBTers who are no longer active with us.)
So great to meet you all! Thank you for your very warm welcome.I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and work in the aviation security industry. I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries, then spent my teen years reading historical romances.
These days, I'm into crime/mysteries, thrillers, young adult, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, comedies, and literary fiction. It all depends on my mood, of course. Looking forward to connecting with you all.
Welcome, Dolly and Liz. Great to have you along. It’s a fabulous group and super-flexible - the only rules relate to the year-long challenges not to anything else you might want to read. So leap in! Any questions, just ask and people will be happy to help. I’m one of our cheerful handful of Antipodeans - in my case, based in Wellington, New Zealand. I’m a lawyer with two grown boys and one small granddaughter and waaaaay more books than I will ever have time to read. Apart from reading, embroidery is my ‘thing’. I’m just about to embark on an intensive (2 week) course in blackwork which will really stretch me

I'm a Canadian who now lives in the States.
I spent 4 years in Nepean and Ottawa (2 years in each)! Back then I worked primarily teaching piano, but has a side business while I built it up. I visited the Aviation museum at one point, perhaps with my composer/musician boyfriend (for part of the time) but I can't remember anymore who I went with--that's my only link to anything aviation in Ottawa.
However, I hale from BC and was born literally a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean for someone with a very good arm. The nurses in that little hospital used to use different coloured blankets to call my dad and the other MD in if they were fishing while on call on a weekend so he could know how fast to get back. They may have done that for other doctors, but he told the story about himself.
I'm also an eclectic reader and love to sing (and am finally getting half decent at it. When I met Amy once IRL I was a raw beginner and sounded very painful.)
Welcome, Gwen! You will see that some of us introduced ourselves above. Feel free to jump into our activities and participate in any discussions.
Gwen wrote: "Hi, I’m Gwen and recently I have been in a reading slump this year. Between my reading slump and being an introvert, I felt it was time to join Goodreads and branch out not only my reading genres..."
Welcome, Gwen. We work hard to get you out of your reading slumps. What kind of books do you like to read?
I'll add that this group is also fun for introverts, so just hop in where you feel like it.
We are currently voting for our tag of the month and everyone has a vote.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The tag is a category of books that we vote to read from and it is a lot of fun to do. July's tag is debut books and I'm currently reading a favorite author's debut, After You'd Gone.
Hi Gwen! It's so nice to have you here with us and hope you will have as much fun as I do in this group!
Welcome, Gwen! Jump in, the water's fine! This group will definitely expand your reading, LOL. I'm a pretty eclectic reader but love mystery. I'd say lighter reading dominates my reading too. Right now I'm reading Ruth Reichl's debut memoir Tender at the Bone: Growing Up at the Table which is a delight, and also an OOP mystery The Beryllium Murder from Camille Minichino's excellent Periodic Table series. Written in the late 1990s early 2000s, it features as its sleuth the retired physicist Gloria Lamarino, and each mystery involves one of the elements of the periodic table and murder associated with labs and science research. Back then, senior sleuths in mysteries was not trendy at all and I suspect that's why only a few in the series remain in ebook print.
Gwen wrote: "The only genres I don’t read are horror, and true crime ( serial killers). I gravitate towards lighthearted books however, I am trying to branch out and read more genres outside my comfort zone. ..."
Those are 2 genres I don't read either. I read a lot of mysteries but I hate chapters that go inside the head of a psychopathic killer/serial murderer.
