And another welcome to Kushi. Anita mentioned she read a lot in high school, and I'm sure many of us did. I was one who did, too!

Feel free to jump in anywhere you please.
Every month we choose a "tag" for the month and try to read at least one book that fits the tag. This month the tag is Canada. We are currently voting for next month's tag. You can find that here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
And everyone can vote even if you haven't read any books here yet.
Welcome Patrick~ glad to have you in the group. And I echo that Max is welcome anytime. You just made about 50 new friends.

Hope you enjoyed your travels!
Hi everyone, I’m new here and excited to be a part of your group! Looking forward to having fun and getting to know you.
Welcome Bobbi. Prepare to add a ton of books to your TBR. You might be interested in our yearly challenges (The Compass and Play Harder).
It's not too late to join either of those games if you wish. Also, if you see any threads that interest you, feel free to comment. This is a very active group!
Bobbi - if you have any questions about what all is happening here, don't be shy about asking. You can certainly easily join in any of the annual challenges -- there is a summary of them under Activities Discussion. Monthly a theme is voted for the next month - you can simply start there. That's how most of us start off.
Hi, I’m new to the group.
I started listening to Audible this year and love it. These days I mostly listen to nonfiction as I found myself wanting to learn more and read harder.
I still read fiction in between those challenging nonfiction books.
Right now, I am listening to John Adams by David McCullough. Slow going but I have learned so much!

Welcome, Mary, you will get LOTS of ideas here of what to read! this is a great group with a variety of activities you can participate in if you choose. I see you have the Welsh dragon as your avatar, are you of Welsh descent? My husband is, and we participate in Welsh-American activities. Also this group has a number of fans of dragons in general!
I am also an audiobook addict, and a Mod on the GR group called Audiobooks, where among other things we share news of Audible sales and specials.
Your Audiobooks group sounds wonderful Robin. Heading over there to join.
I am always looking for great books to listen to.

Welcome, Mary!
Welcome, Mary! You will enjoy this group and your TBR will grow. I most read fiction - mysteries being my favorite but I'm a diverse reader generally.
Welcome Mary. I know you are really going to enjoy this group. I have become a much more diverse reader since joining.
Welcome Mary! There are a few of us reading U.S. presidential biographies in chronological order of when the perosn was president. I'm currently on Chester Arthur. I thought John Adams by McCullough was very well written. I hope you enjoy it.
Ohh! I am very interested in this. Will seek out the thread. Any suggestions on which author to read for Washington ?
Mary wrote: "Ohh! I am very interested in this. Will seek out the thread. Any suggestions on which author to read for Washington ?"Here is the link to the Presidential Biographies thread: Presidential Biographies
I don't participate actively in this but I do happen on occasion to read a presidential biography that fits into about where everyone is and I add my 2 cents.
@Mary - a couple other active NF threads you might be interested in:PLanning Thread for American and European History reads. We've read a few and you are welcome to resurrect any of those buddy reads and add your thoughts: The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777 and Improbable Patriot: The Secret History of Monsieur de Beaumarchais, the French Playwright Who Saved the American Revolution are two of them that have buddy read threads. I believe there are also threads for Rick Atkinson's WWII trilogy, a book or two about the French & Indian War in US, and a few others. If you post in our planning thread, I'm sure those who participated in those reads will provide you with links.
Buddy Read The Fate of the Day. This will be ongoing for awhile as I have not even started the book and likely won't for a couple months or more. With buddy reads like this, you can always ressurect them later if you read out of sync with others. I'm also the caboose in NF buddy reads - sometimes a full year later! This one I likley will delay because it will be at least 6 years before Atkinson publishes the last in this American Revolution Triology.
Mary wrote: "Ohh! I am very interested in this. Will seek out the thread. Any suggestions on which author to read for Washington ?"Theresa already linked the thread. I put a schedule up at the beginning of the president thread mainly to keep myself somewhat on track but we're definitely reading at our own pace. I'm slightly behind on my Arthur book mainly due to recovering from ankle surgery. The best book anyone read for Washington seems to be Washington: A Life. Looking forward to you joining us.
Yes, I bought that biography of Washington some years back, after reading Chernow's famous Hamilton bio. But I haven't touched it.
Chernow's biography of Washington is one of my all time favorite books - definitely in the top 10. Once you begin, you will not be able to put it down. It reads quickly and there are hundreds of fascinating tidbits throughout. The deeper you go, the more respect you will have for him.
I know what I’m using for my July Audible credit now.
Thank you all for your suggestion on my next up Presidential biography listen.
Excited to start Washington: A Life. I decided get the 41 hour narration by Scott Brick instead of the fourteen hour one by actor Edward Hermann.

That's one really good thing about Audible. A 41-hour book costs one credit, just like a 4-hour book. It's weird that they have an abridged option, though.
Looking at the release date, both came out the same day. I suppose there are some readers who enjoy an abridged version. I have never been one of them.
If anyone is interested in a buddy read for this let me know.

Hi--welcome to this group:) We have a lot of fun here, and we have a huge variety in reading tastes. This is a safe place to review books if you're interested in garnering points.
There are a number of fabulous y/a authors from Canada, but of course you're reading an amazing classic :)
