Wen (thespoilingone) | 26 comments I recently joined this group. I have in the past couple years found many christian historicals I really loved to read.
I used to read almost entirely romance novels but each year they got more and more racy and had less and less story to them. I have slowly tapered off reading most save for a few favorite authors.
I also love history and have been reading lots of historical fictions as of late and that is partly how I came to read many of the christian historicals I have loved (the other is mom giving me many that I may not have picked up on my own)
Chrsitian historicals I have really enjoyed have been
Lizz Curtis Higgs --> Thorn in my Heart, Fair is the Rose, Whence came a Prince and Grace in Thine Eyes series
Nancy Mosers --> Mozarts Sister and Washingtons Lady
Ann Burtons women of the bible series
Francine Rivers --> Voice in the Wind and Echo in the Darkness (still need to read the 3rd book)
Bodie and Brock Thoenes AD Chronicles (am up to book 3)
There are some others I have enjoyed but not sure if they fall into the christian historical category since they were purchased in the regular fiction section. Authors being Orson Scott Card women of Genesis, Marek Halter,Rebecca Kohn.

I am happy to be here and look forward to adding to my to read list from suggestions I get in here.

I have not read any Ann Burton, but have read many of the others you mentioned. I especially love Liz Curtis Higgs. I hope that you find many great suggestions here to keep you reading for hours and keep your TBR pile larger than your read. :)

Jennifer (jennafraugh) | 313 comments The Mark of the Lion Series is great! You have to get the third book.

Jennifer (jennafraugh) | 313 comments You should read her Redeeming Love if you like her Mark of the Lion Series. That one is the book of Hosea re-written.

Charmaine (empress_charla) | 114 comments Welcome to this group! I hope you will have fun on here and will get some good book suggestions. :-)

I have read Nancy Moser's "Mozart's Sister" and it was great!

A friend recommended the A.D. Chronicles series to me, so I will start reading it in the near future.

I'll have to check out those other books that you mentioned!

Joy Welcome! You've come to the right place for book suggestions. :)

Wen (thespoilingone) | 26 comments Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I have already written down several more books to look for.

My favorite (at least at the moment) time period is around the Tudor time from War of the Roses time to the end of Elizabeth Is time. I have not had a lot of luck finding Christian historicals for this time. Any suggestions on that front?

Oh and also my son has read a couple author series he liked and any suggestions as to others he might like too would be great. He read the
Chuck Black books and Donita K. Paulbooks. He likes dragons and the king Arthur time and also Star Wars and other Sci fi ish ones as well.

Jennifer (jennafraugh) | 313 comments Anything by Ted Dekker your son would like. As for those in the tudor era...I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but if you like books revolved around War Era's or during the times of Pirates then I can recommend some great ones. The Secret of the Rose series is right after the Cold War. It's by Michael Phillips. Lori Wick has her Kensington Chronicles series that is all about Naval/royality. Brock and Bodie Thoene have series for WW1 and WW2 that are really good- Zion Chronicles series and Zion Covenant series and Shiloh Legacy Series

Let me also extend another welcome to the group!

As for the Tudor period, I just recently read A Constant Heart by Siri Mitchell, and while it was published by a Christian publishing compa..."

Hi thanks. I actually just ordered A Constant Heart off Half . com just a couple days ago becaues it was the only Tudor ish one I had seen. I know for writing around good ol Henry VIII and his time would be difficult due to the fact that Henry and his court were pretty wild. But I like the stories behind all. That time period was when England broke from the Roman Catholic church. All the conflicts during this time has been very interesting to me.

And as for Marek Halter (yes I believe is a he)..his books are about the Biblical Time Period but were not found in the Christian section. With his series on the women of Canaan he shows how their lives were at that time period and also shows the beliefs they most likely had at the time as well. Also shows how being influenced by the male characters in them (like Moses in the Zipporah book)starts to open them up to new ways to view things.
That would also be the case with the Rebecca Kohn books I have read as well as several others I have loved that are Set in the Biblical time period.

*Just wanted to make sure to say that while I found them facinating they may not be viewed as Christian historicals. Not sure the exact defining as to where the line is drawn, but also dont want someone to go pick one of them up and be offended since many do depict a very pagan way of life as the books start out*

Wen (thespoilingone) | 26 comments Thanks all for the book suggestions. Am getting ready to look all up to see if to add to my to read list or not.
And specially for my sons. He is sometimes hard to get books for and is nice to have at least some alternative to the Star Wars novels he prefers. :D
