Oh Tech..techy boy..how could you get it soo wrong..you of all people..and it is an artist you ought to know well, being as he's from Jamaica!

It was of course, as correctly suggested by Helen and Tim, Jimmy Cliff's I can See Clearly Now! ;-)

@Tim....Consultant wants to get me in asap to do the other eye, because of my extreme myopia...so I'll be booking to see him in 2 weeks for a check up & then maybe get the other eye done in about a month's time, with any luck. It's all rather disorientating at the moment...as having now got a restored eye..but the other is still shite! I keep walking sideways into things..and me hand eye coordination is now completely screwed! I was trying to eat some peas last night, after getting back home from the hospital....most of them ended up on the floor!

I'm sorta getting by, by keeping one eye closed...just to be able to function..and weirdly I was nearly sick this afternoon, presumably cos me brain hasn't adjusted yet....it'll sort itself out soon, i'm sure.

theDuke | 6496 comments Good evening! I'm here! Doing this with one eye closed, as it's the only way I can see straight currently!

Right gonna do this quick, cos i'm bushed tonight, and I've got a thumping headache.

Two songs tied at 27 points, but the excellent North American Scum by LCD Soundsystem scored 4 max points to my nom East West by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, which scored 2 max points. So congrats to Tim for a cracking nomination!

I take the middle spot for my nom & mopping up thirds with a song by a band I don't usually like, but Hit The North by The Fall proved to be the exception, it scored 19 points, so well done Johnny.

Congrats to the winners, and thank you everybody for all the good wishes, much obliged..as well as voting for my nom...I didn't think it would do that well, tbh! :)

Hard luck to Rob...what can I say...except that I think we've had enough of sampling your hooters mate! Here's ya wooden spoon! :)

Some of you struggled with round, I have to say I enjoyed it.

Note to oneself...must get reacquainted with the polite Mounty cop & his deaf pet wolf.... again! :)

message 76: by Rob (new)

Rob Campbell | 477 comments Yeah I noticed that The Hooters were the only band with 0 points. There's something wrong; there's something very wrong when JA of MuMu and Ruthless Rap Assassins - not even proper music by anybody's definition of the word - get so many points! I thought this was a discerning music group.

message 77: by TheFoe (last edited Mar 26, 2018 12:40AM) (new)

TheFoe | 2640 comments I think there's something more wrong if you consider 3 points to be 'many' points. My song choice would have perhaps been more aesthetically pleasing to the ear had we been allowed Eastern, Western etc in the title instead of the pointlessly rigid East, West etc. I couldn't find anything suitable in my collection hence the reason I requested that. As for rap not been music, nauseating feeling of deja vu here.

message 78: by Tim (new)

Tim Franklin | 10963 comments Rob, we've all had a favourite nom roundly rejected here by the (cough) discerning voters!

Funny story; before nomming it, I'd never even heard the LCD track. I did a search on 'Zon's digital music lists, and wrote down about four or five for each compass point before picking one. Listening to the song, I heard echoes of The Fall in it, so it's ironic that a couple of voters who don't enjoy the Mancunian gods, loved the song. Cheers guys! :-)

Then they go to Rough Trade
To buy Siouxsie and the Banshees
They heard John Peel play it
Just the other night
They'd like to buy the O Level single
or Read about Seymour
But they're not pressed in red
So they buy The Lurkers instead

I'm less worried about the zero for my nom, more worried about the votes garnered by JA Mumu etc. (and sorry, Foe, you are correct, 3 is not many points - the Rappers got caught up in my "many points" dragnet).

Anyway, whoever this Cornish bloke is, he sounds like he was on the right lines. There's plenty of music that I don't like (The Fall, David Bowie, Coldplay, endless motown tribute acts where the singer announces that he's "going to take us back") but I can see why others do. We all like different stuff, and I'm fine with that, but there is definitely a line in the sand, and I'm afraid that rap and Mumu are on the wrong side of it!

But I'm not Cornish.

I can't really argue here..I love King Gizzard! But rap I totally agree with you..it isn't music imo...and Gangster rap is just plain wrong and every level. As for the Mu Mu track..i'm not normally a fan of techno, or whatever that type of music is called...but it was different enough to pique my interest.

We're all different, I continue to be surprised by the oddball nominations & at how some song do so well...but others with I personally think ought to have done better, but don't. Just how it goes....I didn't think i'd get much for my nom in this round.

But I think, it's not about how well or not a given song does..for me..it's finding those hidden gems nominated by others, that I wouldn't have come across due to my musical tastes...that for me, is my interest in these music games.

Furthermore...I am ever astounded, that several weeks could go by with average playlist, to me are a bit 'meh'....then a playlist comes along that just fantastic. One in particular was the 'one album wonders' theme, which I nominated.....the whole playlist was just superb from start to finish! Hence why I've decided to do a 2nd round!

And final note....as foe mentioned..some of themes can be tricky to find a suitable nom for...so that too can throw up some odd nominations..just so a nominator has got something to offer!

Anyway, as the saying goes, It's not the winning that matters..it's the taking part!
