Hannah watched him for a moment before deciding to pull out her phone. She didn't know what had happened to Bart but she hoped he had his phone on him by now. If not, she supposed he could just answer later. But she just was asking if he could keep the dogs one day.

DEv glanced over but didn't say anything. He started to prepare the meat and put it in the oven before going back to the vegetables. He was a fast worker, when he was focused. After all, he had 14 years of practice.

Hannah smiled a little as she watched him work so diligently. It was nice not having to cook for herself, and sweet he'd never even asked.

He grabbed a few potatoes and a knife then sat down next to her. "What are you doing?"

'Not much,' she signed. 'Trying to figure out how to ask my brother to watch my dogs.'

'Have you texted him yet?' Dev asked her.

She shook her head and showed him her screen that just said 'hey' in the text box.

Dev tilted his head. 'Do you think that is a good start.' He wasn't tech savvy.

Hannah shook her head and laughed a little. 'I don't know anymore,' she signed.

Dev smiled at her and bumped her gently with his shoulder.
'I think it will start the conversation.'

'Just that?' Hannah asked, really not sure if she should start with just that much.

'Then you could find out if he is back from whatever that was earlier. Do you think he's alright or is he always so wild and vicious like that?' Dev asked her.

'Something was up. He's not usually like that. Something was off, but I don't know what,' Hannah answered.

Dev thought about it as he finished peeling the potatoes.

Thinking about it now, Hannah sent the simple text. When he answered, then she could ask about him.

'Do you want mashed potatoes or scalloped potatoes?" He asked her, getting up again.

'I like mashed, but I know it takes longer,' she answered,.

She smiled and signed a thank you, though she hated to put him through all the extra work.

He already had water boiling to steam the other vegetable and put the chunks of potato directly in it.

Hannah waited patiently and watched him, looking down occasionally at her phone to see if Bart had answered yet.

Dev went about his business quietly for about ten minutes.

Hannah's phone buzzed with a message from Bart.

It was his usual mesage to her when she said 'hey'.

Hannah smiled a little when she finally got an answer. You okay? she texted back.

Dev looked over at Hannah but didn't say anything.

Breakfast tomorrow maybe? His answer made Hannah a little worried, but they would need to talk eventually.

'Everything okay?' Dev signed, seeing that she was getting more responses.

Not including dogs, I hope? The puppies need walks in the morning.
Hannah looked up and smiled at Dev, nodding. 'Just fine,' she signed, having to put down her phone first.

There was a long delay before the next text.

'Almost finished,' Dev told her, turning to open the oven.

'Okay, thank you,' Hannah signed, smiling still. Even though now she was starting to get worried since he hadn't replied yet. A sigh of relief escaped her when her phone buzzed again.

Dev check the potatoes and dumped the water before adding the cream and things and mashing them. Then he served the plates.
"Garlic seasoned pork chops with steamed peas and carrots and personally mashed potatoes."

Hannah hummed her approval. 'It smells so good,' she signed. And though she didn't say it, it looked very good as well.

He bowed slightly, mostly just playing. 'Would you like a drink?'

'Please, some water?' she asked, smiling a bit.

He gave her the 'okay' sign and got two glasses of water. While she wasn't able to see, he put a capsule in one of the glasses and waited until it dissolved. He handed her the regular glass.

She laughed softly and nodded, holding her glass up to his before she took a sip and then picked up her fork. She was honestly surprised, but the food looked so good...

He smiled at her and Sat down to start eating. Taking a hearty swig from his glass, he dug into his porkchop without making too much of a mess.

Hannah ate carefully so she didn't make herself sick which was rather easy nowadays. For as good at it had smelled, it tasted just as good. A moment later, she had to put her fork down. 'How did you learn to cook like this?' she asked.

"I practiced in the kitchen in my free time," Dev said. "They needed a lot of help."

'Well they taught you well. This is really good,' Hannah signed.

His food was rather bland, but it had be purposeful.

She gave him a smile and then went back to eating. This had to be the most interested she was in eating than she'd been in a while.

Dev noticed that too. 'Are you feeling better, than you have lately, at least?"

'Better, yes. Sort of,' Hannah signed. Lately, she had seemed to be better off, but it came in swings so she wasn't too confident it would stay that way for how long.

'Better is good. And sort of is progress,' he told her.

'So we are going for a picnic tomorrow, right?' Dev asked her.

Dev paused. He hadn't known what Bart had said in his messages.
'Unless you want to do a full day.'

Hannah honestly wasn't sure. Spending a whole day sounded nice, but they couldn't do that tomorrow. 'Well I don't know how long it will take with me and Bart. If it runs too long, we'll have to postpone.'
