I'll rec a beautiful fave: One Saved to the Sea

ellie (ellieafterall) | 7 comments Hi, I’m Ellie! Everyone’s mentioned my favorite sapphic books already, which just tells me that we do not have enough of them. I know we know that already, but people are always talking about how lgbt+ representation in books seems to be getting bigger but the pile of mxm gets bigger so much faster than fxf?? Which...is sad.

@ellie that’s SO TRUE. especially with popular lit? this group was partially inspired by me looking up a mlm book I adore on tumblr and the first post being an “lgbtq rec list” that had legit 20 m/m books and not ONE sapphic book or book with a trans lead or even a bi lead! and I feel like reading only m/m is really common when people have just figured it out, but I’d like it to change. I wish I’d had more f/f book lists when I was just figuring it out, you know?

aleks | 16 comments Hi, I'm Ola! I'm Polish and I'm planning to study Spanish and French in England :)
I'm kind of going through a sexuality crisis :') and I'd like to read more sapphic books! (God, I love this term <3)
I'd love to write one, too :D

My personal favorites are:

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant
Cam Girl by Elliot Wake

None of these are ya(although the girls in Fingersmith are 17, I think?)... sorry about that... I recommend all of them, though! I've just read Cam Girl and it's like one of the most romantic things I've read ever...

As for ya, my favorites are The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Annie on My Mind :)

Exactly! I used to only read m/m, but now I just want to read as many books with f/f relationships as possible, and I know there are quite a few of those out there, but NOT ENOUGH :((( Every time I read an epic ya series now I wish I could read the same thing but with f/f in it...

Hi Victoria! I have some fantasy or sci fi f/f recs if you'd like! Some of my faves are The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (scifi), Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee, and Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust

message 57: by Elke (new)

Elke (madebyberoyal) Y'all, I never join goodreads groups, but this is such a great idea so here I am! My name is Elke, I'm a 21y/o bi girl from Belgium, used to be blogger and I love diverse books with intersectional characters and issues.

Some of my fave books with an f/f relationship are
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde,
Far From You by Tess Sharpe,
Always Human by Ari Walkingnorth (you can read this for free online),
Chameleon Moon by RoAnna Sylver
The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutski and
Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust.

Also, not personal favourites but some I haven't seen mentioned yet: The Melody of Me and You, Labyrinth Lost, Knit One Girl Two

message 58: by Sanne (new)

Sanne | 4 comments Hi! I'm Sanne, and I'm bi myself, so I always try to read books with LGBTQ characters in them, and I realised lately that almost all of them are mlm.
So I mostly joined this group to get some recommendations, and because this seems like a really cool group.
My personal favorite book with saphic main characters is: Not your sidekick by C.B. Lee.

message 59: by Silvia (new)

Silvia (silviareadsbooks) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Silvia and I've always consumed a little bit of sapphic content but only in the past few months I've actively been looking for it, reviewing it and recommending it!

Some of my favorite sapphic books are:

Annie on my Mind
The Abyss Surrounds Us
Godsgrave
A&B
Princess Princess Ever After (read for free here: http://strangelykatie.com/princesspri...)
Always Human (read for free here: http://www.webtoons.com/en/romance/al...)

I'm always looking for more recs and I especially love finding new sapphic webcomics (like the two free ones I mentioned above) because I'm always in the mood for cute (and free) content :P I also think they're especially great to recommend to people who don't usually read f/f, because it's pretty easy to get into them.

Okay why do so many libraries/bookstores have few lgbt books? Like not even the really popular ones?

Even Barnes and Noble doesn't have that many, and there isn't an lgbt section. You have to search for them in the general YA or fiction sections, and you can't usually tell by a cover or title if a book has rep.

iam (iamreads) | 1 comments Hi, I'm iam! I'm ace and from Germany, and unsurprisingly I spend a lot of my time reading. A friend sent me the link to this group and I'm super excited to see more sapphic recs!

Some f/f books I read & liked recently were The Better to Kiss You With and Romancing the Inventor, and since I saw some people mention f/gq as well I also really loved Don't Feed The Trolls, Winterglass and Huntsmen.

this is so so frustrating :// I'm really lucky to have access to a fairly well-stocked library, but they tend to only have the most well-known lgbtq+ books and v few sapphic ones. it makes things difficult bc I'd like to read more lesser-known titles, but I don't have much of a book-buying budget at the moment.

i agree! i want fantasy books with lgbt+ rep and it be as casual as all the fantasy books that are somehow all straight. im currently reading obsidio, the third book in the illuminae trilogy and it has GREAT rep in terms of disability and poc but like....how u gon set a book in a future where sexuality would be accepted as fluid and not have any gays?? like? not even ONE side character? how? how does an AI have feelings seem like a thing to add but not gay people lmao

All of this is so on point.
I just finished Obsidio, and there is a throwaway line that reveals one of Rhys' fellow-soldiers talks about her ex-girlfriend, but it's definitely not representation and seems to only be there so another character can make a joke about how "hot" he finds it (It annoyed me greatly)

That sucks. I just got Obsidio, was planning on binging the trilogy next month. I've only read Illuminae and it was awhile ago (loved it though) so was going to re-read it, then move onto Gemina and Obsidio. I don't mind lack of representation, not every book is going to have lgbt+ rep, but that just sounds...rude. To just have it there to say how "hot" he finds it.

Just pulled my copy of the book out so I wouldn't be speaking out of turn, the actual quote is:

So I feel the need to amend my statement and point out that these are the 'bad guys' and maybe isn't there SOLEY for a joke. But it's still sadly the only mention through out the series.

Ah, ok, thank you. It's sad that it fails in this aspect, but glad it's still very good and one of your favorites. (view spoiler)I feel so behind, don't know how i've managed to put off Gemina so long and now I finally have all 3 books, staring at me.

message 73: by cathy (new)

cathy (polluxreads) Hey everyone! I'm Cathy, I'm 23 and bisexual. I really love reading, tv/movies, blogging, and video games. I actually just basically started reading LGBT books in general last year, so the only sapphic book I've really read is Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova (and You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour and David Levithan if that counts?) So yeah I'm really excited to find more, especially fantasy ones because those are my favorite!

I hope we get to a part where lgbt+ relationships are normalized enough that we'll just get side characters being in lgbt+ couples. And it'll be more than a throwaway line. But thank you for letting me know, Kaylin! I'll probably give it 5 stars anyway, because I love the series.

My review will be like: 4.5/5 not enough gay - ellie

IM SECONDING THE ACE BOOKS THING. NEED MORE ASPEC SAPPHIC GIRLS IMMEDIATELY THANKS

also, SAME. I’ve read so many good books about mlm, but I find it so difficult to recommend them as lgbtq books because it feels like I’ll recommend one m/m book and eight f/f books and the person asking will only read the m/m book, EVERY TIME. it’s so annoying!!

I'm pretty shy, and probably won't talk or participate in discussions a lot, so sorry in advance about that. I know it can seem a little rude to do that :§ I'm not a blogger or anything, really at all.

Some of my favourite sapphic books are:
- Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeannette Winterson
- We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
- Ash by Malinda Lo
- One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg
- Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera
- Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
- Twixt by Sarah Diemer
