I didn’t know anything about the interdependence of trees by way of fungal networks, or that these networks do not work in agricultural settings. I didn’t consider how competitive trees are for access to sunlight. They are at both extremes at the same time. It never occurred to me that trees can communicate presence of predators, like insects, to one another. I found it particularly interesting that there are “pioneer species” which blaze the path for subsequent species’ of trees which eventually replace them.
