17 hour audio. Damn. I hope it's good cause that's pretty lengthy!
I just realized that, too!Actually , this is a re-read for me , i read it like 20 years ago (no joke, i think i was 14 or 15 yrs old!) - but I don’t remember ANYTHING except liking it and getting into Jude Deveraux’ books! So when i stumbled upon the audiobook the other day, i got all nostalgic and decided to give it another go :) i am pretty excited to see if i like it or find it stupid so many years later :))))
Started! I want to kill the heroine !! Seriously - Douglas seems TSTL
About 1 hour in... Why i hate Douglas so far :(view spoiler)
Overall she seems like a stupid pushover, waiting to be taken advantage of! And the idiot boyfriend turns everything around! That’s what annoys me the most - the fact that there is ZERO communication between them ! He is such a mega-douche!! He seems like a cartoon villain , that’s how much the author exaggerated his douchyness!! No one actually behaves like that towards their girlfriend? Do they?!? AND Who in their right mind would tolerate such behaviour?
Also - the heroine is so desperate! She keeps saying she couldn’t find a guy and this guy is a great catch, etc... Seriously- why so desperate?!
I'm with you 100%. Dougless is a moron. No fucking way would I put up with that shit.
I stopped on chapt 2 about 1 hour and 20 mins in. She just found out how valuable the coins were and went back to find Nicholas at his own tomb
Hmmm, the whole “time travel” thing is pretty corny ... And the banter between Douglas and Nicholas better develop some chemistry soon!
So the douche boyfriend dumps herr there and allows his daughter to steal her stuff?!??
Yep. He is a major douche. I didn't get much listened to. My headphones broke so I've been borrowing my daughter's when she isnt using them.
Im about 5 1/2 hours in . Chapter 10
Douglas resumes acting like a moron .... she is just sooo pathetic and needy!! Is she supposed to be a strong and intelligent heroine here?! Is that what the author wanted?! Cuz i just don’t see it AT ALL.
And now Nicholas is being an asshat too - he’s all over her one moment , the other he is thinking about how he neeeeeds to go back home and she must not fall in love with him soooo he’s just gonna play it cool and tell her all the ladies can’t help but falling for him ..... To which she -out of spite- decides to prove to him that she’s definitely NOT falling for him?! Instead of just ditching his ass , she’s still helping him and proving to him she’s not in love out of spite?!
Ridiculous!!!
I am kind of interested to see if there is more to this story of him being framed for treason and hopefully that wjll be something exciting to read about ....

Lol , short guy. Yeah . Their back and forth, jealousy, lady Arabella .... generally it is all pretty ridiculous and unbelievable.... :)
BUT somehow im sucked into the story and wanna see how this clusterf*ck turns out! :)))

lol :) i know ... i hate when my batteries die and i have to use the regular "cord headphones" ... i feel so restricted!
i sometimes put it on "speaker" and just listen "out loud" and my husband and son go insane :) (obviously, i have to limit my listening-out-loud to non-porn books, hahaha, so that i don't traumatize my 3 year-old!!)
Lol! I can just imagine listening to one of my MM books on speaker and my husband walking in during a nice graphic anal scene! Priceless.

Stopping for the night at just under 13 hours. Chapter 27. I'm enjoying the second half a little more than the first half.
So now she’s in his world, she saves Kit...i presume she also saves the baby .... Does she prevent him from marrying Anabella ? Hmmm - does she end up staying in his century?? I wonder .....
Whaaa? So they have sex and she is now back to reality (i mean - modern time).... i kept thinking it wouldn’t happen because I didn’t get why they made such a huge assumption to begin with. Oook! So what now?! im still wondering who ends up in whose time?!Before that - It was kinda annoying how she kept begging him not to marry Lattice .... she was kinda whiny and pathetic ..... Lol @ him suggesting she be his wife’s maid! Also don’t get how they were both planning on staying together but never have sex because she KNEW she’d be transported back! First of all - Lettice or no Lettice , they planned on Douglas staying in his time forever - Douglas wanted to stay no matter what. Ok. So she was never gonna have sex with him?! Ever?!
Also - why were they so sure sex would transport her in time?!?! it’s not exactly a proven thing - it happened with him, but they didn’t really know why it happened- they assumed it was because they fell in love and had sex.... this was just an assumption tho - couldn’t he have been brought back to his time because he was praying hard at the church the day after they had sex?!? Or because he accomplished what he traveled through time to accomplish (found out who betrayed him).... ?

Finished! It's super late and I just finished filling 200 Easter eggs for my son's class tomorrow. So I just want to crash. I'll type up my final thoughts tomorrow :)
Okay. My thoughts. I enjoyed the second half way more than the first half. Time travel is not my favorite type of romance. I'm impatient for the MCs to get with the program. And if one MC takes to long to believe the other I start to get frustrated. If too much of story is taken up by the time traveler "learning" all the new and different things then I get frustrated. So the fact that this book went through that entire process TWICE I was not happy. BUT I got over it and started really enjoying myself. I didn't much care for Dougless through most of it. She came off as extremely needy and clingy. So thirsty for a significant other she would literally settle for anybody with a dick. Falling in love at the drop of a hat is not an attractive quality. In her mind having a significant other and getting married seemed to be the most important thing in life. I was embarrassed for her.
Once she gained Nick's trust again in his time then she should have revealed everything. He started to believe her words after saving his brother and son. So right then she should have explained why she thought whats-her-face was so evil. She should have revealed her part in turning Nick in for being a traitor. Instead she kept that to herself because why? She thought Nick would fall in love with her? By the time she came out with the story it was too fucking late. It was like the night before he had to leave and shit. That whole thing pissed me off. Once the person believed I was from the future and was there to help I would have laid every single piece of knowledge I had on the table and let them do with it what they will.
I kind of wished the guy at the end had some of Nick's memories or something. Something that drew him to her more. So the rest of their relationship she is just going to be with him because his soul is Nick's? As if he isn't his own person? She's just going to be in love with his soul??? I don't know about that.
I gave it 4 stars but it fell more around the 3.5 star range
Yes yesss! She was needy and she pretty much even swid at the beginning that all she wants is to find a guy to marry her. So right off the bat, i thought that was cringeworthy!
Then the whole falling for Nicholas the second day she met him and claiming she is in love - asking “is it possible to be in love so soon after a breakup?” .... Ok moron, first of all - that wasn’t a breakup, your boyfriend left you stranded and stole your stuff. Second of all - no it’s not ok to be in love 2 days after just meeting someone (who claims to be from the past!).
Overall Douglas was one of the most annoying female characters i’ve read about lately!
Finally - meeting the guy on the plane who has Nicholas’ soul.... oook lame! It would have been better if we were given some sort of insight into what their relationship would have been like , etc... this way i feel like i read a 500 page romance novel without a happy ending!!! Like a “to be continued....” - very frustrating . I guess the author wants us to assume a HEA just because his guy has Nicholas’ soul! Just like you said - why are we to assume a HEA because his soul is in this new guy - she’s gonna love his soul, regardless of what this new guy is like?! Yeah, didn’t like that. After so many pages i hoped they would have found a way to be together !!!
