And then there was Goal of the Year.Once again, I would have given it to Charlie Cameron, but the winner was Jack Higgins (Richmond) - who is one of the most likeable blokes in the game.

Quarter time:West Coast Eagles (Sussex) v Collingwood Magpies (Tech)
2.2.14 (Q1) 5.1.31
Wow! What a start! The Pies kicked five unanswered goals. However, the Eagles got two back in the last two minutes of the quarter. Will this revitalise them or will Collingwood re-group and gain control again?
Had a couple of photos from the honeymooners looking far too chirpy at 5.30am in Malones (sic - no apostrophe!) Irish Bar in Morrison St, Edinburgh. A good crowd of Aussies and the local Aussie Rules team, the Edinburgh Bloods.
Half-time and once again the Pies have let the eagles back into the game with two late goals in the quarter:West Coast Eagles (Sussex) v Collingwood Magpies (Tech)
2.2.14 (Q1) 5.1.31
4.8.27 (Q2) 6.3.39
Three-quarter time:They don't get any closer than this:
West Coast Eagles (Sussex) v Collingwood Magpies (Tech)
2.2.14 (Q1) 5.1.31
4.8.27 (Q2) 6.3.39
8.7.55 (Q3) 8.7.55
And it's all over for another year:West Coast Eagles (Sussex) v Collingwood Magpies (Tech)
2.2.14 (Q1) 5.1.31
4.8.27 (Q2) 6.3.39
8.7.55 (Q3) 8.7.55
11.13.79 (Q3) 11.8.74

Thank you everyone for your enthusiastic and regular participation. I always enjoy running this comp and get great fun out of sharing the game with you. Without your input, there is nothing, so a big hand for all you willing or unwilling converts to Aussie Rules! See you here next year (Goodreads willing!).

Thanks Val,fun as always ,I'll send some to the mirabel foundation ,it's their twentieth anniversary this year.
Congratulations Red John, and to all the final games winners. I'm happy that at least I managed to pick the right team this time!So the Eagles have finally ended their 12 year drought...good on 'em, hard luck the Pies, but a sterling effort from them too.
I have already made a donation to Insight UK, but thank you Val, for your generous donation to the Aussie branch! Another superb undertaking & i'll look forward to next season's games.
:)
Apologies for the missed punt Val, I got stuff going on and everything just got by me a bit. Can I still have a B on me report card, else head-teacher will keep me on for another week?! : )Big thumbs up for running another season, and the plethora of donations. Very nice one!

..
Flippin' 'eck. I recorded the final and have just finished watching it. That was incredibly tense. I didn't expect to be as nervous as I was ... almost as frightening as watching Spurs play. :-)
Val, thanks for your generosity and for running such a tight ship, as always. It's been a blast.
Until next season ...
.... a very happy SussexWelsh.
Thanks Val for running this once again and for your generosity to all our charities. It's been fun as ever.

Glad you enjoyed it Sussex! It was one for the ages given such a tight result. I was mighty glad I wasn't a supporter of either club - as you say, it was heart-stopping enough!
Well done to all the winners and a big thank you Val for not only running this punt again, but also for your unwavering generosity. Look forward to next season. COYD !! :-)
Hi Val, on hols at the moment and just caught up. Pleased to have delivered a strong late run on the rails to snatch a victory. Thank you once again for your unstinting generosity and your perseverence in coping with 'us lot' so patiently. Orlderlorrofus look forward to next season.
yeah, once again, masterful marshalling of the afl season and the punting competitors! i've never had so much fun without knowing zip about the rules of a game (don't tell me!)i am in awe of your donations to charidee, and i'll ensure mrs tech makes similar (but no that much, 'hink a'hm made a' money!)
:) thanks again
I would like to echo the sentiments of everyone else and say what a fabulous job you do Val, with organising everything and the donations you make to the various charities.
I have really enjoyed my first season and look forward to the next one.
Keep up the good work, Val :)
Not forgetting congratulations to RedJohn and Tech - well done, guys :)

Almost ready for the new season...can't wait! I heard that Big Mummy was wheeled out of retirement to help the Giants along, but will he stick around? I gather he's serving a short suspension currently. Lost a few good players though, Shiel to Essendon, Scully to Hawks & Lobb to the Dockers..all big losses.
Glad you're all fired up Duke. I'll probably start a new thread for 2019 this weekend. Season starts on Thursday March 21.I'm very happy to have Dylan Shiel at the Bombers. Scully was MIA for much of 2018 for the Giants, sometimes in body, sometimes in his head. I've been a fan of Lobb's in the past but he has often disappointed in big games. 2019 will be a test of character for your team.

Yeah..just deends if they can curb their injuries a tad! Might make it to the 8 again..but we'll see. Crows will be looking to redeem themselves, after tough 2018 season for them.
I wonder if newest arrival Mad Mac, could be enticed to join in the fun?
SussexWelsh wrote: "I have an old schoolmate who now lives in Perth and he's interested in giving it a go this season."That would be excellent! Keep an eye out for the new thread I hope to put up over the coming weekend.
SussexWelsh wrote: "I have an old schoolmate who now lives in Perth and he's interested in giving it a go this season."How does he pronounce ‘scone’?

I don't know, Lez. That's Perth in Western Australia by the way. ;-)
Ohhh, that's great news, Sussex! ;o>I think I can bring myself to overlook the possibility that he might pronounce Scone as 'Scon' ... just so long as he likes most Cakes in general then that's fine by me! - LOL!!! ;o>

The winner was Isaac Heaney (Swans) but I preferred Charlie Cameron's (Brisbane Lions)
