Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
I curl the slate colored fur ball in my arms and listen as Lani explains the council’s role in this. Mom shifts in her seat again, straightening up and crossing her legs. “That’s the other thing. I didn’t want to mention this until you both were feeling better but I guess how’s a good a time as any. There was talk around the hospital that the council is entertaining the idea of having a trial,” she murmurs.

“But you said there’s nothing left of the guy. How could they hold a trial?” She shrugs at me.

“I don’t know. For all I know, they could be holding a trial for the deaths of your parents, Lani. Fat lot of good it’d do the Council now, though.” My mother shakes her head. Peppermint squirms out of my arms, hopping onto the floor, and gets a running start to leap into my mother’s lap. Mom’s fingers scratches the pups pink belly, her stubby tail still wagging away.

His mom mentions that there is talk of a trial possible for my parents' deaths, though it was a bit late for that. I frown a little looking down at the soup for a second. Of course they would want to wrap things up with a pretty bow but the killer is gone. This was all over so why draw it out like this.

"Honestly I don't like the sound of it. The killer is gone and that is justice enough for my parents. To drag things out in a trail just means the longer I have to be away from my normal life which I am hoping could get back to normal." I say with a sigh leaning against Ezra a little.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
“As I’ve said, I’m not entirely certain about the situation but if they do reach out to either of you we’ll have to figure out a way to handle it. Council trials—especially useless ones—are no picnic.” My mother shudders, pulling her puppy closer to cuddle her.

“What happens at a council trial?” I ask.

She bites her lip. “They aren’t necessarily trials, at all. I suppose it’s more like an execution. They badger the accused until the demanded information is given,” she answers. Her soft eyes sort of glaze over as she stares off into space.

I nod in agreement when she says that council trails especially useless ones are no picnic. She shudders a little pulling Peppermint closer to her. Ezra asks what happens at a council trail. She explains it to him and she starts to stare off into space.

"She's right. It is basically a trail to get the accused to confess to the sins that the council already knows." I tell him. "You know that night I ran into you by your friend's shop and I looked complete different. That is my 'alter' look. When I can doing work for the council I don a disguise to go investigate rumors of magic users misusing their magic."

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Agathe
“I ran into trouble with them when you were born, Ezra,” I say, hugging little Mint to me. “It seems like the council has been getting out of hand over the years. They want to remain all secretive but at the same time they’re beginning to dip their fingers into human affairs.”

My son looks over st me, brows knitted together as he looks between us. “I’ve never run into them, I don’t think. But now it seems like they’re all anyone talks about,” he sighs.

“That’s the way they operate. They like to be heard, but not seen. I guess they think the anonymity gives them more reason to be feared.”

She tells him that she ran into some trouble with them when he was born and that they have been getting out of hand over the years. I sigh a little knowing she wasn't wrong there. Ezra says he has never run into them, he doesn't think so at least.

"Trust me you're lucky if you never have to." I tell him. "They're getting a bit power mad with there positions and I have a feeling I'm going to have to step in to correct some things." As one of the most powerful magic users alive right now I had a position on the council. I just preferred not to use to. I rather live a normal life.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Agathe
“How will we know if they decide to pursue a trial?” Ezra asks.

“You don’t, that’s the thing. The council is made up of seven people but they make spur of the moment decisions that benefit nobody,” I answer shaking my head. “I’m not even sure if they still meet face to face anymore. Magic users used to be able to sit in on council meetings and voice their thoughts, but now. . . I don’t know. It could very well be that way because Arik is heading it.”

I scratch my head in thought.

Gemma (gemthebookworm) | 7918 comments Lani

Ezra asks how we will know if they decide to pursue a trail and his mother explains that they make spur of the moment decisions so it could be whenever. I nod a little knowing how those trials run. Honestly the council needed to be revamped.

"She right it could be when ever and with the killer being gone I don't know what they are going to have a trial over." I say with a sigh and lean against him a little, resting my head on his shoulder.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
I hold Lani to me protectively. “So, basically, our only option is to sit around and hope they don’t do anything?” I ask stiffly.

“Pretty much. I’d say you could take the opportunity and leave town, but I’m afraid the council may just follow. Who knows if anything will go back to normal?”

(Idea: what if the killer was a member on the council? One that Lani hadn’t met, but knew her parents. The killer could have been a council member who basically got drunk on magic and so started the killing, but maybe before that the other members put him in rehab, which worked until he found his trigger: Lani and Ezra’s bond. That way the council is covering up their mistakes in treating the guy by starting a trial saying Ezra killed him. Thoughts??

message 560: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemthebookworm) | 7918 comments (Ooooh that would be an awesome twist and totally a lot of drama if they start accusing Ezra of killing him. Plus it would really push Lani to rejoin the council at her sit that had be vacant since she has been away from them.)

Lani

"Pretty much." I say along with his mother after he asks that we are suppose to just sit around and do nothing. "Until the council decides what to do we pretty much just wait to hear from them."

Bookwyrm Ouroboros That’s perfect! Should we do a little timeskip then to space everything out? Also, Ezra getting arrested? Hah! Talk about deja vu XD)

I wait patiently as Lani finishes up her physical therapy session. They haven’t said how long she’ll have to continue therapy but considering all the nerve damage I’d say it’ll still be a while.

I’m still a bit shaky myself on stairs, but I’ve gotten good enough that I don’t necessarily need therapy. Mom has been a big help around the apartment too, although most of our down time we spend with her and Peppermint. I suppose she’s making up for all the years she missed—not that I mind, she’s a killer cook.

Nothing has been normal like before, but we’ve been getting there. Technically, I’m still on medical leave from work, but I don’t know if I’ll stay at the station. I may just have to look for a new profession. We’ve also been trying to find out anything going on with the council, but all we’ve been able to get is bits and pieces of rumors.

"Alright just two more lifts with the weight, Lani, and then we'll be done for today." Lisa, my physical therapist tells me as pant a little rest for a moment. It had been a few weeks since everything had happened and I was well into my physical therapy.

They had me coming twice a week to work on my shoulder. I was doing better with it but I still can't move it much without pain and it was still pretty stiff. They don't currently know how long it will take me to get back to normal with the nerve damage but I was making progress.

"Okay." I say lifting the small weight with my bad arm. I wince at the twinge of pain when I lift my arm out about to my stomach. I still couldn't get it higher then that. "One... two." I say finishing up. I set down the weight and drink a little water as Lisa praises me and tells me some excises to work on at home.

"Thanks again for a great session." I say with a smile as I grab my stuff and head out to find Ezra. I smile brightly as I see him sitting in a chair by the front desk.

"All done." I tell him and lean down to kiss his cheek. "She said I'm making good progress. I just have to keep working at it."

“That’s great, love. Maybe soon you’ll be able to beat Mint at tug-o-war,” i tease on our way out. I walk with her hand in hand out of the building to my car. But then I see two cars—one at the front of my car, another behind, blocking it in. I pause in my steps. Four people emerge from the vehicles upon seeing me and start for us. My gut twists with anxiety.

My lips part to say something but before I make a peep two hands reach for me and yank me away from Lani. Another person approaches Lani and flashes a badge. “Ezra Dennen, you are under arrest for the murder of Councilman Ryker Mendez, as ordered by the Council for the Management of Magic. Anything you say will be used against you by the council during your trial—“

“Wait! What are you doing??” I struggle against them as gloved hands lock iron manacles about my wrists behind my back. While two people drag me away the other two restrain Lani so she can’t do anything. I yank against my bonds as my magic starts glaring again, only to burn thanks to the heavy handcuffs. I cry out but that doesn’t stop me.

I’m shoved into the back of one car as I’m shouting at them but it’s no use. One man pushes my face into the seats and something pricks my neck. My vision goes in and out. My head throbs. Suddenly my head feels like a lead weight. My eyes wander and my lips move but no sound comes out. The sounds of shouting a door slamming warp as if my head was under water.

He teases me that soon I'll be able to beat Mint at tug-o-war. I chuckle as we walk out to his car. He pauses for a second and suddenly four people emerge from vehicles heading towards us.

"Hey!" I yell as they tug Ezra away from me and start to arrest Ezra for a murder of a councilman. Ezra struggles against them as they handcuff him and the others start to restrain me as well. "What the hell! Do you know who I am?" I yell at them tugging and pulling against them.

I hear Ezra cry out and that sets my magic on overdrive. My cuff burn but my magic overpowers them, melting them away. I huff with a smirk. They weren't made to contain someone like me, not with my kind of magical strength.

The guys grab me as I try to tear away from them. I watch as they shove Ezra in a car. "Let me go! I am Lanikai Claremont and I am a councilwoman for major magic users. Now let me go." I yell at them. The guys seem to recognize my real name and let me go.

"We so sorry, councilwoman, but the council has ordered us to take that man into custody." One of them says.

"I want you two to take me to the council now. That man is my matched and I will not allow them to make a decision for him on something he didn't do." I tell them both firmly. The nod and guide me over to the other car.

"Yes, councilwoman."

Bookwyrm Ouroboros 3rd POV
Unconscious, Ezra is left still bound tightly in iron cuffs. The four men, while obedient still hesitant to release the magic user. The Head Councilman has made it painfully clear that this Dennan isn’t meant to be set free—no exceptions. But then again, he isn’t the one looking an angry, bonded user straight to the face.

Two men get into the first car with Ezra while the others get in the second, offering to give the Councilwoman Claremont a lift to the official meeting place. Knowing the other members they’re already waiting for Ms. Claremont with her grievances.

Gemma (gemthebookworm) | 7918 comments Lani

I am beyond pissed. They would not get away with this, accusing my matched of a crime he didn't do. I sit in the back seat with my arms crossed as the men drive me to where ever they were taking Ezra.

How could they accuse him for killing a councilman when we never ran into one. The only person Ezra might have killed that day was the man who had tried to kill me. They couldn't be saying the man he killed was a councilman. It made me sick to my stomach to think that could be true.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros 3rd POV
The dark truck leads them into a small parking lot in the center of a cluster of office buildings. Once parked, the two goons, concealing their group with a glamour, half carry-half drag Ezra inside the shortest building.

Inside the men hold ID cards up at the ready as they pass through more security scanners than the TSA. The men holding Ezra don’t pay much attention to Lani—they remain focused on delivering the accused to the council. Ezra stirs and mumbles every now and then as they lead him through the maze of hallways to a dim conference room. He doesn’t wake yet.

The two men get Ezra settled in a chair in the center of the room and lock restraints around his wrists and ankles. He starts mumbling again, his head lolling about on his shoulders. His eyes open a sliver but can’t find anything to focus on, though he could feel the energies of the council members hiding in the shadows.

I watch as they carry Ezra in as they head through security which I swear has gotten worse. We go through scanner after scanner and they about stop me until I tell them who I am and confirm I am who I say.

Once we are finally through they drag him towards a conference room and the men stop me as the others take him into a room. "I'm sorry but you can't go in there." They tell me.

"Like hell I can't." I growl, eyes growling. They both swallow hard and back up with there hands in surrender. I glare at them as I push pass them and into the room.

I walk over to Ezra and see him waking up a little. "Ezra?" I say softly cupping his face in my hands. His eyes still dazed and unfocused. I glance back to see the other council members hiding in the shadows.

"Come out of there you cowards. Stop hiding." I snap at them, pissed.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
My mouth feels like sand. What did they give me? Lani cups my face, which finally makes the world stop spinning. Then she yells at someone but all I can hear is that watery sound like when they knocked me out. I shake my head a bit and try to move but my hands are stuck. Hmm? K look down to see both of my wrists locked to the arms of a chair, the same done to my ankles.

I’m finally able to open my eyes to see Lani in front of me, still holding my cheek. I tilt my head as my hearing shifts. She’s yelling. I follow her gaze and watch as five men and women approach us from a large, stretched podium near one end of the room. “Claremont,” one man greets gruffly. “He murdered councilman Yenar (I can’t remember if we gave him a name). If you don’t mind, I’d like to get this trial over with.”

He must be the head of the council. Mom mentioned him.. what is it? Aaron? Arik?

Lani

I look back at Ezra seeing he was coming too and then back at the council as the head councilman addresses me. He tells me that Ezra murdered a councilman. I glare at him hard as I let go of Ezra's face to turn toward them all.

"He did no such thing. He killed a killer who has killed my parents and three others before he tried to take my magic and kill me as well." I say and my eyes glow as the room shakes a little.

"If you are telling me that the councilman and the killer were the same then we are going to be having a different kind of trial today." I tell him deadly serious. "Because if you all hid and protected a man who killed my parents and has now killed other innocent people then you are hypocrites and disgraces to the magic users."

Bookwyrm Ouroboros I found it!: ryker Mendez :)

Ezra
Arik! That’s it. Lani glares at them, standing protectively in front of me. The head man steps forward when the room shudders. “Lani,” I murmur, at least trying to calm her. She’s spent so much energy into her therapy already. I don’t want her pushing it.

But she stands her ground and Arik steps forward. “Watch it, Claremont. We did not protect him from anything. We had him rehabilitated. They had just cleared him when your puppy showed up and screwed him up again! Do you think it was easy trying to convince him to go in the first place? Imagine trying to track him down a second time!” The councilman slams his fist down on the podium in frustration.

Ezra mumbles my name as I glare at Arik. He walks towards me and tells me to watch it, the bastard. He adds that they didn't protect him, they had him rehabilitated and they just clears him when Ezra showed up and screwed him up again. His fist slams down on the podium and I shake my head.

"Really? Rehabilitate a man who killed my parents in cold blood to try and get to me. He deserved to be locked up and tried for his crimes." I snap. "This was no one's fault but you own. All of you. You knew this man was obsessed with me and my power and you chose to try to rehabilitate him."

I scoff disgusted with them all. "Three lives, three lives he took because of your poor excuse of a solution. I hope everyone of them haunt your dreams." I say crossing my arms as I glare at them all. "We are meant to protect the magic users of the world and because of your poor choice you almost endangered them all. If he had gotten my power... he could have killed millions without even trying."

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
“But he didn’t, now, did he? We would’ve gotten him! We almost had him, but your match had to intervene. Isn’t a few bodies worth it if we had save millions?”

I perk up at that, my fists clenched and muscles bunches as I yank at my restraints. “What did you fucking say?” I growl at him.

He just looks at me like he doesn’t have a clue. Doesn’t he realize? He just called my Lani a body! One of few! Trembling as I struggle against the manacles. Another, stronger, tremor rocks the room. The council all stumble and brace themselves. I yank on my wrists again through the pain of the iron until the heavy cuffs finally break.

From there it’s a piece of cake freeing my legs. I lick my ankles free and shove myself to my feet. And before the dumbass can get away I grab him by the throat and shove him against the wall. His eyes Go wide. “You better answer me. Now,” I spit.

My fingernails dig into the flesh of his neck. He growls at me and grabs my wrist. “Better a few dead than many.”

I shove my face up in his as I crack him against the wall. “Watch your mouth. You have sent me and Lani through fucking hell pulling this shit. You’re lucky I don’t rip you limb from limb for insisting Lani is a sacrifice!” I squeeze him tighter until his face turns purple.

He tells me but he didn't and they would have gotten him. That they would have gotten him if my match had intervened and adds isn't a few bodies worth it if they had save millions.

I crinkle my nose in disgust that they were willing to let people die for there mistakes. Ezra growls at him and I turn to see him trembling as he yanks at his restraints. A large tremor rocks the room and we all brace ourselves.

Before anyone even knew it Ezra is free and has Arik against the wall by his neck. He spats at him telling him to answer him and Ariks growls and grabs his wrist. He says better a few dead than many.

Ezra's face is inches from Arik's as he cracks him against the wall. He tells him to watch his mouth and that he sent Ezra and I both through hell and that he was lucky that he didn't rip him limb from limb for insisting I was a sacrifice.

I rush over him as Arik's face starts to turn purple. "Ezra. That's enough." I say gripping his arm with my good hand. "Please, baby, he isn't worth it." He would get in real trouble if he killed Arik.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
I almost don’t release the bastard. Almost. Lani touches my arm and talks me down but even then it takes me a minute to back off. Bloody scratches mar his neck as he crumples in a gasping heap. I lock my arms defensively around my Lani. Turning around, the last of the members distance themselves as far as they can from us.

I waltz out of there with Lani at my side, being cautious with her arm. No one tries to stop us this time.

Good.

He looks determined to kill Arik but after a minute he let's go of his neck. Bloody scratches are left on Arik's neck as he crumples, gasping for air. Ezra's arms lock around me, protectively and he turns us around as the last of the members of the council back away.

Ezra leaves with me at his side and no one we pass tries to stop us we go. I demand the keys to one of the cars we were driven here in and they pass them over quickly. I walk with Ezra out to the cars and I sigh pausing to hug him with my good arm.

"Are you okay?" I ask softly. I was worried that he had overdone it again with his magic since that second rumble was not my magic.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
Lani hugs me close, asking if I’m okay. I nod and kiss her head. “I’m fine. Just need to rest a bit,” I mumble, though my nerves are in reality too wound up to relax. I help Lani into the passenger side after insisting that I drive.

I take us back to the rehab center to pick up my car, where I find my mom looking ready to blow up. “What happened?? Where’d you go?”

She bombards us with too many questions to keep track. I hold my hands up. “Please slow down. We can explain at home.”

“I’m driving. You look ready to fall over.” Her eyes narrow and I don’t argue.

I curl up against his side as we buckle up. "The council tried to arrest Ezra for killing a councilman. The man who tried to kill me and the councilman are apparently the same." I tell her.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Ezra
The car screeches to a stop. My body lunges forward and the seatbelt bites into my neck. “THEY DID WHAT?” she fumes.

My head snaps back. “We took care of it,” I mumble but mom remains stiffer than a corpse in her seat, white knuckles gripping the wheel. I rub the back of my neck and sit up.

“Those little pricks! I oughta—“

"He's right, Agatha. We had everything under control. They said there bit and we said ours. I doubt they are going to try anything like that again." I tell her and rest back against the seat, rubbing my shoulder a little.

“That gives them no right to go after you!” I growl defensively, struggling to concentrate on the traffic lights.

Ezra grabs my shoulder and gently squeezes from the backseat. “Mom, trust us. He knows not to mess with me, or Lani. Lani is the only reason he is still breathing,” he murmurs. I can hear the exhaustion in his voice.

Taking a deep breath, I nod and drive him and Lani over to my apartment. “Alright. Alright. But that still doesn’t make it right.”

“But it’s enough to make him change—at least I hope so. If not he will be seeing me very soon.” Ezra shifts again in the back seat. Glancing in the rear view mirror i sigh watching him settle down, his eyes drifting closed.

"You're right. It doesn't give them any right and I will be working on changing that. The council is in for a rude awakening." I tell her with a little pout, still kind of pissed that they had all but hide my parent's killer from me.

I rest my head on Ezra's shoulder and take his hand in mine, stroking my fingers over his knuckles. He tells his mom that it was enough to make him change but if not he would be seeing him again.

"No, I don't want you anywhere near them." I tell him quietly and sigh as he settles down some, his eyes drifting close. I lean up and kiss his cheek softly before resting my head back on his shoulder. I was just glad he was safe.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Agathe
Lani soothes Ezra enough to get him to sleep. I smile a little and park right in front of my apartment, making sure my residential pass in visible. Then I help Lani take my son inside. He’s sleeping so soundly, I use a little flick of magic to carry him along.

Inside, Mint whines with excitement and starts running circles around us. I laugh softly. “Minty girl, shh. Hey, I know. It’s okay. We’re home. Lani go ahead and sit down I’ll put him in my room for now,” I insist as I lead Ezra into the bedroom.

I tuck him in without any issue and close the door so Mint won’t wake him. Then I kick off my shoes and slump in a chair by the tv. “This is a mess,” i grumble.

"Thanks." I say softly and go sit down, tired from physical therapy and the whole council thing. She comes back over once she has his settle and grumbles as she takes a seat.

"Trust me I don't like this anymore then you do. They let the man who killed my parents live, sent him to freaking rehab to try and fix him. He killed three more innocent people and then tried to kill me and they felt that was a justifiable loss." I say disgust in the council.

“I don’t know if there is much you can do on your own. You could try to overthrow the council—everyone knows you could but there would be so much work involved in assembling a new one of developing a new system...” my head starts throbbing as I prattle off absorbed in my own thoughts.

I shake my head. “Are you planning anything? I may not have known you long but I sure as hell know you won’t let the council stand as it is.”

"I don't know yet." I tell her honestly. "But as the council sits now it unacceptable. I can't let them keep running things like this. They let a dangerous magic user roam free just because he was a councilman. They didn't nothing to stop him and just blames another for their mistakes." I sigh a little.

"The problem is if I do that... I don't want Ezra there. I don't want people to try and use him against me. I don't want them to take things out on him if I decide to overthrow the council and start a flesh council." I explain. He was so protective of me after everything that happened. I didn't want him losing control over something and hurting himself again.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Agathe
I crack another smile. “Honey, there’s no keeping him out of this. Simple as that. I think the best you can do is help him control his magic; before anything can change with the council, Ezra needs to be prepared so he doesn’t hurt anyone. I’ll do my best to do my part, but I’m not the best teacher.”

I sip the glass of water I had set on the end table and brace myself as mint launches herself into my lap. I cuddle the pup. She stretches out lazily, her tongue hanging out of her mouth. Her tail thumps against my leg. Then I look up at Lani again and rest my head on Mint. “You and I know Ezra won’t stay away where you’re concerned, but I know he won’t let others influence him.”

She tells me that we know Ezra won't stay away where I'm concerned but she knows he won't let others influence him. "I'll talk with him about it." I say with a little smile.

“Speaking of normal, I swung by your apartments to grab your mail—Ezra had asked me earlier if I could. I’m surprised he hasn’t been home more, with everything that’s been going on. But then again you guys have been here, huh?” I chuckle a little and get up to grab the stack of mail from the counter. Returning to the living room I hand her the rubberbanded stack.

I sigh meeting Lani’s gaze. The hints in her expression scream for normalcy, but clearly there is none for her and Ezra. Reaching over I squeeze her shoulder gently. “Lani? Do you think, before you do anything, the two of you should take a break? Just for a few days, get out of town and relax. Both of you have been going nonstop lately between follow up doctor appointments, therapy, watching the council,... it’s not healthy.”

"That would be great." I say slumping my shoulders a little. "Honestly I feel like it has just been one thing after the other lately. A break would be great. Just a little time alone with him without someone trying to kill or arrest either one of us."

“If you’d like you could stay at my cabin. It’s pretty deep into the country so it’s private but I hide it with a glamour as well. I’m the only one who knows it’s there. It’s perfect for a short getaway,” I offer with a smile. “The cabin itself isn’t accessible by foot. It’s easier to teleport.”

She tells me about her cabin and how it was hidden away in the woods. It would be the perfect spot to getaway. I smile softly and squeeze her hand gently.

"That sounds absolutely perfect. Thank you Agathe." I say and give her a little one arm hug. I really do owe her for all she has done for us both. I know she was just happy to be back in Ezra's life but still it meant a lot at how she accepted me as his matched.

"Will you be okay here on your own?" I ask knowing it was silly to ask but I didn't want her to be lonely without us.

“Oh, you’re welcome sweetie.” I hug her gingerly and kiss the top of her head. Then she asks if I’ll be alright. I wave off her concerns. “Don’t worry about me. Mint’s ready to protect me, aren’t ya, minty girl?”

The pup yelps happily hearing her name, smiling to show off her teeth. “See? I’ll be okay. But to ease your fears, I will call you if something happens. I promise.” I kiss her cheek and release her, stifling a yawn. “Until then, let’s get some sleep. You had a long day and I have work tomorrow.”

Giving her a lopsided grin I unfold the bed out of the sofa and get myself a blanket. “Don’t even argue, go straight to bed; Mint and I will take the sofa.”

She hugs me back saying welcome as he kisses the top of my head. For a second I wonder if this was what it would be like to have a mom in my live. I was so young when my mom died that I hardly remembered her or my dad.

She tells to not to worry and she has Peppermint but she would call me if something happens. She yawns and shoos me out to go get some rest, telling me to go straight to bed. That her and Peppermint would take the sofa.

"Thank you, Agathe. Truly. I'm really glad you are back in his life." I say wishing her goodnight. I head over to her room where Ezra was still asleep. I strip down and put on my pajamas before I crawl into bed, cuddling up to him before I fall asleep.

(Time skip to the cabin trip??)

Bookwyrm Ouroboros Yeah:) would you like to set it up?)

I talked with Ezra about his mom suggestion and he had been on board with it. A nice little weekend away to clear our heads and just have some us time. It was really something we needed. We had barely had any us time since everything happened.

We say goodbye to his mom and Peppermint before I teleport us up to her cabin. We appear out in the pathway in front of the cabin with our suitcases. The water and the mountains behind us. It was gorgeous.

"Oh wow. Your mom was right this is perfect." I say excited at the view and the peacefulness of this place. It really was a perfect getaway place.

Bookwyrm Ouroboros ooh nice pic!)

Ezra
When we appear in the doorway of the cabin, I take a deep breath--realize this is the first time in a while that I have taken a deep breath and have felt relaxed. I set my suitcase down and unlock the front door. The door gives way to a nice homey set up with open space between the large kitchen and the living room. It looks like there's a bedroom or two on the ground floor, but then there's a ladder leading up to a loft above us with a skylight too. I whistle low. "If this weren't my mother's place, I'd be suspicious," I murmur to Lani.

I help her carry our stuff inside and set everything by the door, then close it behind us. I walk around the space to check it out and smile a little seeing a couple glass doors leading out to a deck right between the house and the lake. "It's beautiful here.... so quiet too..."

I just take a moment to soak in the peaceful silence.

He puts his suitcase down and unlocks the front door. We head inside and I swear the inside is just as perfect as the outside is. Open and airy, with a homey feel. He whistles and tells me that if this wasn't his mother's place, he'd be suspicious.

I chuckle and help with getting our suitcases inside before he closes the door behind us. I can feel him relax as he tells me it is beautiful here and so quiet too.

"It is. Perfect place for a getaway." I say as I wrap my arms around his waist and smile softly. "So no work, no council stuff. Just us and relaxing." I whisper leaning up to kiss him.
