Did anyone else not like the new Murder on the Orient Express Movie

I was so disappointed with this movie. The liberties that the director took were, in my opinion, detrimental to the story line. In addition, I did not like the way Poirot was depicted at all. What are your thoughts?

Ii was not bad but it was neither good. I would have liked it better if I hadn't read the book already. And I LOVE the book.

I liked the movie, but you have to view it as an adaptation and remember no movie will top the way you imagined it in your head (most of the time).

I liked the movie

Well, I watched the film first... Not bad, but I would have liked to read the book first! I'm looking forward to Death on the Nile film, though! It was my favourite Agatha Christie book!

el problema fue que caricaturizaron a los personajes; y francamente era innecesario. Una película seria que retratara a los personajes de forma realista hubiera agradado más a la gente. Por lo menos eso creo.

Branagh's Poirot was an interesting twist on the character that was fine to me in some ways. What's the point of a film if it's 100% faithful, right? You may as well just read the book. I would've liked some more flamboyant lines and scattered French from Branagh's Poirot, but oh well. I wasn't a fan of the "Oh, ma Katerine" scenes or his near telepathic super sleuthing at select points of the film.

Acting from some of the other characters was a hit and miss for me, the worse being the Count. I know it's an expedient adaptation; modern audiences ain't got the patience and there's only so many minutes in the film. Yet it was a bit dumbed down foreshadowing for the book's ending too. The dour tone for the film was a nice touch to me.

What I loved was the shot framing and that they built an actual train for their set. It looks wonderful and close to what I imagined it, if not entirely accurate. And the blatant Godiva plug made me chuckle. So the film wasn't all awful and it has parts that I liked; I'm looking forward to what they do for the less popular Death in the Nile.

You want to talk disappointment for me regarding a Christie adaptation? No to Disney's Miss Marple pitch. They may as well make their own detective series than label it Young Miss Marple.

I haven't even watched the movie. But now you say its bad Should i really buy it? 🤔

No. I guess I am so accustomed to seeing Poirot played by David Suchet, that I just couldn't stomach Kenneth Branagh's portrayal. I did enjoy the film starring David Suchet, but could barely make it half-way through this new version

I turned it off after about half way through. Thought the overall depiction of the book was pretty poor to say the least. I like Branagh and his work but was disappointed with this. Now maybe if they’d changed all the characters names and called it something else, it may have been watchable.

Sunlight on Shadow Did nothing for me. Original movie was much better. As was the book.

No, sadly, I couldn't retain interest in it. Shame as I'd been really looking forward to it.

The movie was a miss for me =(

I really didn’t mind the Poirot portrayal. But did not love the movie.

There were a lot of things in the movie that bothered me, as a reader. I usually understand adaptations and changes, and I do realize that the movie is never going to be exactly like the novel (it wouldn't be good if it did). But I really didn't like how Poirot was depicted - he didn't seem as confident as in the novels and, well, I'm not an expert in Agatha Christie but... what was that thing with the woman in the portrait and the tears and insecurity? That is not Poirot ><
I thought that if the movie concentrated more in the mystery and less in "feelings" (and by that I mean all Poirot's tearing scenes), it could've been much better.
I liked the art, though. The movie is quite beautiful to see, if you ignore the plot...

I didn't like the movie, of course. But some friends who didn't read the novel ( I pity them) actually liked the movie.

I just don't think this book fits well as an adaptation, which is why I wasn't surprised to see they'd added a few little action scenes and they were on and off the train all the time.

Poirot version on Masterpiece PBS was far superior in my opinion. Also followed book more closely which I finally read recently for the first time, before watching both versions. I would like to see the 1974 (?) sometime with its very prominent cast...

Haley The Caffeinated Reader They have it on amazon, I had bought it, but I do prefer the Poirot TV version over all. Movie was...too Hollywood-ish with the added action.

Nihita I agree with you all. David Suchet IS Poirot. It is too hard for me to see anyone else do the role justice.

I thought the new movie was a horrible adaptation, the character of Mrs. Hubbard was terribly skewed.

Honestly, I couldn't make it through the movie at all. I watched most of it, but I could not finish. It wasn't as intriguing as the book was, therefore I was bored. I ended up falling asleep before I finished it. I didn't like the way Poirot was depicted either... I was rather disappointed.

To me the definitive Murder On The Orient Express was the David Suchet one. It would be difficult to better it.

it was just ok....ken branaghs poirot just didn't ring true, paled in comparison to albert finney and david suchet, had a few decent touches, but ending was terrible.
