Lis | 4037 comments This is one of those weeks I wished books were sortable A-Z within each book's shelf titles... by page 7 the choices are down to only 1 person shelved as "hunter" options, so I also searched random books from my tbr pile... so between the shelf and or my search this is my short list:
Immortal Unchained (Argeneau, #25) by Lynsay Sands Deadly Silence (Blood Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti or Night Shift (Jill Kismet, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow

Lis | 4037 comments Ditto Steph on that dog gone audio version, but I'm still waiting... when I'm into a series in book, kindle or audio format I tend to want to continue in the same type... Which is silly because no one else reads my books or cares....

Lis | 4037 comments Completion Post ~ Necromancers shelf

Grave Ransom (Alex Craft, #5) by Kalayna Price

Title/Author: Grave Ransom by Kalayna Price
Series: Alex Craft #5
Date Read: 4/25/2018
Shelf: Shelf - Necromancer
Pages: 384
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review: Alex is back and still living in her fae castle with her friends and colleagues that have become somewhat family. Alex has been hired by a high school student for a missing persons case. This is Alex and Rianna's PI business, Tongues for the Dead's first real missing person case. Primarily they're hired to raise shades for families, police and insurance companies that need to speak to the dead. The missing person case quickly turns into the walking dead literally as a necromancer is stealing souls and body swapping to create pawns for his crimes. Alex is quickly recruited by the Nekros City police to assist on the case as the re-animated corpse count increases. Enjoyed the book, enjoyed the Death and Alex moments. Feel that the time between book releases makes it difficult to keep up with the series and remember all the players and where everything left off. Next one is expected in 2019, bummer.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments Shelf: Necromancer
Book: The Awakening (Darkest Powers, #2) by Kelley Armstrong
Read: April 25
Rating: 2.5 stars
Review: So the series as gone up a .5 to me in rating....

Ok so the story is interesting, but the characters are not. I don't like them. They are not likable. We have Tory (who can toss spells around)the mean girl, Chloe (who can see ghost and raise the dead) the quite MC who get's stuck with mean girl while they are on the run from the Edison Group who have been after them because of the powers they have. (view spoiler) They are trying to find two others Derrick and Simon(who happen to be werewolf's) Derrick, tooo much angst. He annoy's me, I feel like she tried tooooo bloody hard with making the characters typical. I think my ugh for them even takes away from any plot enjoyment, tbh.

So I have only read one of Kelley Armstrong's adult books, and now 2 of her YA ones. I don't think she rights strong YA at all.

You know if it's for a challenge I maaaay read the last of the trilogy but on the fence.

Lis | 4037 comments I have not tried her YA or mystery series, but really got into her Otherworld series. Preferred her Elena and Clay books, but did a little pick n choose on the side character spin off books. I also read the ones about Savannah which were somewhat YA in the beginning. I am really enjoying her Cainsville series now.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments To some her YA series might be amazing, if I read them as a 14/15 year little girl I'd probably enjoy them and think, Oh Derrick he is soo dreamy with the moodiness, blah blah. But Im not a little girl and I have read so much better YA books.

Oh, me too. I have several series I really prefer to listen to b/c I have from the start, but I don't have as much time to listen alone as I used to before we got on the road. I figured since waiting for audio was holding me up and I have the next book in audio I'd go ahead and read it. I wouldn't mind listening though, if she does release an audio version.

I need to return to Alex Craft; hubby and I listened to book 1, but stopped there.

My review for my hunter book coming up.

Steph (angel4492) | 32719 comments Shadow's Seduction (Immortals After Dark, #17; The Dacians, #2) by Kresley Cole
Shadow's Seduction by Kresley Cole
Series: Immortals After Dark #17; Dacians #2
Shelf: Hunter
Read: 26 Apr
Rating: ✮✮✮½

My Review:
Shadow's Seduction tells the story of Prince Mirceo Daciano and his new friend, Caspion the Tracker. The two first meet at a pleasure palace in Rome - Caspion, a death demon and tracker, is simply looking for a soak and brew before returning home to the realm of Abaddon; the Prince is there living it up with men and women, many who would do anything for time with the royal vamp. Mircea sets his sights on Caspion who makes it known he's "inflexibly hetero". The spoiled Prince is not used to being turned down which makes having Caspion all the more enticing.
"So you've never been with a male."
He shook his head. "Not my cup of tea."
"It wasn't mine either, until I had a sip."
Mirceo is approaching his transition and he wants to keep the party going, "... sampling every wicked delight available to a vampire with more gold than time and less wisdom than daring" until then. He invites Caspion to join him and having no current obligations he agrees. While on their adventures they quickly become best friends, sharing secrets and other delights. As with most/many PNR matings, there are road blocks they face before accepting/admitting they're fated mates.

I enjoyed the book, but it was more of a side story rather than a major contribution to the overall IAD series. While I don't think it's necessary to read all sixteen previous IAD installments before this one, I would recommend first reading The Dacians #1, Shadow's Claim (Immortals After Dark, #13), at a minimum. If M|M romance isn't your thing, I'd definitely skip this one.

Kaity | 743 comments Dark Desires After Dusk (Immortals After Dark, #6) by Kresley Cole
Book - Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole
Shelf - Necromancers
Pages - 388 pages
Date Read - April 28
Rating - 5 stars
Review - Loved it!! I enjoyed all aspects of this book, even the inevitable betrayal story line. I wasn't in love with the snippets of Sabine and Rydstrom's story though I'm sure I'll love it.
I wish I finished the book before going to see the new Avengers movie... It was hard taking the villain seriously when he was named Groot after watching sassy teenage tree Groot on the big screen.
Can I just say how happy I am for Holly that Dark Desires After Dusk is the sixth book in the series? I hope that was done intentionally.

I really wish they'd rework that shelf page to add things like that (unless it's going to result in more bugs that they 'fix' by eliminating pages grrrrr.....)

Totally understand what you mean! I, unfortunately, missed out on so many of those books when I was the 'intended' age because I thought I only liked contemporary YA like Sarah Dessen or the Gossip Girls series. Bleg.

LOL! I love Groot (GotG) and cannot wait to see that movie. How was it? Was it too overloaded? I'm wondering if it'll be too chaotic with so many mashed together.

There are SO many changes I wish they'd make to those shelf lists, and our bookshelves as well. Lots of opportunity to add a number of different search/sort options, but no. Things just keep getting more and more screwy.

LOVE that series, Kait! Hope you enjoy #3.

Lis | 4037 comments Completion Post ~ Hunter shelf

Immortal Unchained (Argeneau, #25) by Lynsay Sands

Title/Author: Immortal Unchained by Lynsay Sands
Series: Argeneau #25
Date Read: 4/29/2018
Shelf: Shelf - Hunter
Pages: 369
Rating: ★★★☆☆

Review: This story follows another Argeneau nephew that lives in South America and owns restaurants. Domitian Argenis has been waiting for his life mate to appear for over 2000 years and actually recognized Sarita when she was very young, so he's been patiently waiting for her to grow up and have a few life experiences before he claims her. He's been creepily tracking her actions via a private investigator... eww... Sarita is called to Venezuela from Canada, because her grandmother is ill. All a ploy from a mad evil scientist that is kidnapping immortals and doing crazy experiments on them, very sick puppy. Now he is setting up these two life mates so he can observe a mating. The good, after 25 books we get a new twist on the insta love and pass out formula that is always present. The not so good, the island set up and getting to the rescue seemed prolonged and tedious, then the resolution seemed rushed. Domitian seemed like a big love sick pushover... Wondering how more Argeneau's are left to pair up...

Review:

I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I found it amusing that all the gentry, the spirits and elementals alike all wanted to get in Odile's pants. Like before any explanations where given as to why I was thinking ok this is going to be lame but then when I learned about the prophesy, it all made sense.

I like Odile, I don't know if she'll be a fav of mine, Mercy still holds that spot. I will continue on though.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments Dang, the one book I hoped would be on the list isn't. I thought for sure The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton would have been on it.

Back to the drawing board for me.

message 275: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments I'm going with Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher

message 276: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Laughing corpse should work, it's been shelved 167 times as Urban Fantasy.

message 277: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Yes, if you have a book that you think should work always check the top shelves on the book page. It was probably listed on the front page under genres with that many adds.

message 278: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments I thought it had to be on link given when the shelf was called. And it's the first thing on the books mpg tags. So I can use The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton for this shelf?

message 279: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Yes. The lists are generated from the book pages.

If you read the thread about finding Bingo books you'll see that you've always been able to go straight to a book and see if its shelved correctly.

The popular lists are useful when you don't have a specific book in mind and of course sometimes the book you want isn't on the shelf so its handy to look at the list for suggestions.

message 280: by Carrie (last edited May 03, 2018 08:59AM) (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 716 comments So with all that straighten up, I'm going with The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton

message 282: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments For some reason when Goodreads "updated" (sabotaged) the shelves, only 25 pages now show and there are also gremlins at work, so I often look at the book(s) I want to read to see if at least one good book soul marked it with our shelf of the week. With 167 people marking your book as Urban Fantasy, it should have appeared around page 19 & 20, but it doesn't... GREMLINS!!! Glitches! Pet peeve... The shelf issue I usually have is the plural version. Like the book I wanted last week having 1 or 2 marking it as "hunters" but none as "hunter". This week 55 people marked it as UF which didn't make the 25 page cut, but it is works for the shelf.

Goodreads after what 11/12 years, you would think they round up all the gremlins lol.

message 285: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments You'd think so... I've only been along for the ride for about 7 years, so I'm not sure what came before. But I only stay primiarly for the SOS group and to organize & research books before I buy. All the extra fluff like banners that move right when I click a link to pull me into the ad, selling me books via emails that I already own, and other sellsy crap is almost too much...

message 286: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25911 comments Lis, you should go to settings and see if you can't get rid of some of that. As for the banners, I never see any since I added AdBlock Plus.

I would've been driven insane if I hadn't done that with the amount of time I'm on here.

Steph (angel4492) | 32719 comments Hey ladies! I've already been reading Dark Queen (Jane Yellowrock, #12) by Faith Hunter , so that won't work for me. I'll find something else shortly and let ya know my choice. I should've known whatever shelf was announced this week would've had DQ, but I just couldn't wait to start it. I've been taking it slow, hence me still reading it two days later b/c they're always over too quickly.

AdBlock Plus has been a sanity saver for me too! Definitely recommend it. I see no ads :D

I really enjoyed it a lot. However, I wish I'd known it was only part 1. It was very much the first half of a movie. I was shocked when the credits came up.
It was definitely packed with characters but because you know everyone so well, it worked and they did a great job giving everyone their own time and meaning.

That drives me crazy too!! Because if you look at shelves like cozy-mystery: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/... it's pulling from several duplicate names according to the sidebar info ("The following shelves are listed as duplicates of this shelf: cozies, cozy, cozy-mysteries, and mysteries-cozy"). It would be fantastic if hunter/hunters, necromancer/necromancers etc could be combined.
