Book - Lake Silence by Anne Bishop
Shelf - Free Space (on group bookshelf)
Pages - 402 pages
Date Read - March 17
Rating - 5 stars
Review - I am giving this book 5 stars because I loved it. I loved the characters, the story and especially the world Bishop has created. That said, this book doesn't even begin to compare to the previous in the series. I felt like I would burst from emotion when reading the first five books... I never felt that way with Lake Silence but I still really, really loved the book.
I recently read an article about a dog with a human face and I couldn't get that out of my head whenever the Spoingers made their 'happy face' at Vicki. I need Meg's thoughts on them.

Have you heard anything about if the author plans to return to Sproing? I just added the next book to my TBR and read that it's going to be set in Bennett.

Sandra | 25911 comments I checked out her website the other day - hence the Bennett comment. No other details of forthcoming books were there.

Thank you for that list! That's what I was using for my rereads but I'd forgotten it was on GR and so easy to use.

Bummer! I know I'll love whoever else she introduces us to but I feel a little...teased. We've only touched the surface with the Spoinger characters.

Sandra | 25911 comments Yep, that's how I feel too. And you're welcome.

Steph (angel4492) | 32719 comments I felt the same when I heard the next Others book wouldn't be sticking in Spoinger. I guess I'm happy she's sticking with the series, no matter the location.

Lis | 4037 comments Completion Post ~ Immortals shelf

Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega, #5; Mercy Thompson World - Complete, #15) by Patricia Briggs

Title/Author: Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs
Series: Alpha & Omega #5
Date Read: 3/19/2018
Shelf: Shelf 2 - Immortals
Pages: 336
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review: Charles is watching over the pack as Bran is taking a break after assisting with Mercy's overseas adventure. This includes the protection of Bran's "wildlings" that are a mix of damaged, somewhat feral wolves and mates and wolves that are too dangerous to be a part of the Marrock's pack, but live on the edge of the Marrock's territory. Some of these wolves Bran has known for a long time and are very special to him. So when an unknown group attacks, it becomes a mystery of who is targeting Bran's wildlings and who in Bran's pack is betraying him.

The good - Love being back in the Mercyverse and really enjoy the couple Charles and Anna have grown into. She mellows his brother wolf and he gives her security and confidence. Anna's Omega powers are really developing into much more and I find Assail's attention towards her interesting. He seems quite dangerous... and I might dislike Leah a little less after this book.

The bad - There seemed to be so many interesting "wildlings" characters that we will never get to know. Charles' little Mercy bomb (view spoiler) He's the big bad Marrock...

Overall I liked the story and a chance to hang out with Charles and Anna is always good. I liked spending time in Bran's territory and how Anna really seems to belong now. This is one of my must read series and even though Mercy and Anna are completely different characters, the quirky sense of humor that these two have adds nice layer to the story and their relationships with the other wolves. Whether it's Mercy's yard art to annoy Adam or Anna's attempt to rub Leah the wrong way as a distraction for Charles, I just imagine this is PB's personality shining thru her characters.

Book - Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole
Shelf - Immortals
Pages - 400 pages
Date Read - March 20
Rating - 4 stars
Review - I think Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night has been my favorite in the Immortals After Dark series! I almost gave it 5 stars but having just read Lake Silence... it feels like more of a 4 star read. I love the uniqueness of Kresley Cole's world with the valkyrie, magic specialties, lore etc. I find myself wishing the series was more urban fantasy though. Captromancy (mirror magic) is so interesting (especially Cole's version), I'd love a urban fantasy series along those lines!

Lis | 4037 comments After drowning in pages and pages of Young Adult books... I'm short listing these choices, soooo Eve n Roarke OR Rebecca Zanetti since I've turned into a fan girl of her books this last year, OR take a UF PNR break after the several heavy books with pure fun humor... decisions, decisions.
Seduction in Death (In Death, #13) by J.D. Robb Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti or Delectable (Neighbor from Hell, #9) by R.L. Mathewson

Lis | 4037 comments I'm going to give Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti a spin for my "part of a series" shelf pick. If it doesn't grab me I'll probably switch to Winter Igniting (Scorpius Syndrome, #5) by Rebecca Zanetti as my back-up since 1 person shelved it, yay...

Steph (angel4492) | 32719 comments Ya know, I don’t think I’ve read a Zanetti book yet. I have one or two of hers TBR though.

For this shelf, I think I’ll read Winter Halo (Outcast, #2) by Keri Arthur . I read book 1 between shelves and enjoyed it.

It can be hard scanning those shelves. I tend to check for specific books on the shelf instead.

Book - Protector Panther by Zoe Chant
Shelf - Part of a Series
Pages - 200 pages
Date Read - March 23
Rating - 3 stars
Review - Catalina Mendez is Mexican American, buxom, a night-shift paramedic, caring.... and a freakin' moron in the guise of bravery. So disappointing. I had such high hopes for her. The premise of Protector Panther is that Catalina and Shane are kidnapped after an attack and are taken to a secret lab for 'ultimate predator' experimentation. Catalina hears just how horrible things are going to go for her and is excited because zomg she'll be a panther too! I know these types of quickie books aren't meant to be anything more than yummy and dream-fulfilling, but this was too much in what could have otherwise been a really enjoyable read.

Steph (angel4492) | 32719 comments Winter Halo (Outcast, #2) by Keri Arthur
Winter Halo by Keri Arthur
Series: Outcast #2
Shelf: Part of a Series
Read: 24 Mar
Rating: ✮✮✮½

My Review:
Winter Halo is the middle book in Arthur's Outcast trilogy, so it picks up close to where City of Light left off. In this installment, Tiger (a déchet, a lab-designed humanoid created by humans) continues her search for missing children. Her search leads her to Winter Halo, a company she suspects either has the children, knows where they are or what's happened to them. Those Tiger is working with believe she's the children's only hope, so she continues to push herself and put herself at risk in order to locate them before it's too late.

I enjoyed this installment a bit less than the first. However, the characters are interesting with some unique/different abilities and I'm very interested in finding out how it ends. So, I immediately started reading book 3 (The Black Tide) after finishing this one.

Forgotten Sins (Sin Brothers, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti

Title/Author: Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Sin Brothers #1
Date Read: 3/27/2018
Shelf: Shelf 3 - Part of a Series
Pages: 384
Rating: ★★★★☆

Review: So I really liked this series, it ticked all my buttons... Alpha male, strong & smart heroine that's a little feisty, super secret military group up to no good, and mystery. Josie's husband disappeared two years ago after a fast romance and Vegas wedding. She has moved on with her life and everything is on track when her soon to be ex-husband appears with amnesia. Storyline is slowly revealed as Shane regains his memories which leaves a lot of trust issue to work thru along with all the secrets he kept from her the first time around, can she do it again? Of course there's another guy that wants to be more than friends. And hunky alpha male Shane comes with brothers that are all military super soldiers with super secret enhancements too. Good mystery, slow reveal of who and where the brothers come from and who the big bad is. Can't wait to tackle the next book. If you like Feehan's Ghostwalker series, this has some similarities, but I like this one a little more... Zanetti fan girl here and this series starter doesn't disappoint.
