Review: I really enjoy the black-dagger brotherhood series. I will have to admit that the plots are starting to run together for me. This is the spin off series which I generally read as they are published. Which is not my usual forte. I like to wait until at least the first three are published and available. Usually because I do not like waiting for the next book. In reading them as the are published I find myself taking time to remember what happened previously, which can be annoying. I do like that there is very little about what happened before, unlike most authors who write series can take a good section of the book rehashing what happened previously. J.R. only uses a few sentences here and there throughout the book. Unless it is part of the plot in the book itself. For example this was Saxton's book. Saxton was introduced to us in the orignial series and was part of a love triangle were he was the one left out in the cold. I was glad to see him get his book. As it can be hard with triangles where you love all the characters. I was glad to see he got his story. This cause more memories to pop up of what happened previously because it was his story.
As a spin off series this is a good one because it has more involvement with the original series than some of the other spin offs I have read.
I do not recommend reading this book unless you are fan and have read the other books in this series and most of the original series. It is not pertain to do so but knowing that if I picked this book up first without at least reading the first books in this series I would not have thought to highly of the book.

I'll have it done and reviewed by tomorrow evening! :D"
Har de har.......

Thanks for letting me join. I know I was only part of it for a few weeks but it was fun.

Each round of Bingo is separate and teams are formed when the game is announced. We do 2 rounds of Bingo a year, so sometime later in the year probably August September we'll send a broadcast message from the SOS Bingo Alert Group and we'll post here at SOS to let everyone know a new game is happening.
We'd be very happy to have you sign up for Round 17 Charlie so keep your eyes open for the announcement later in the year :)

I wanted to link to my last round team's page to show my teammates, but they were evidently taken down at some point...
IMHO opinion, it's the meeting-new-people and the compleating-a goal=together that draws me to this contest...
... so, here's to the next round, and meeting and playing together again! ...
and with that, I hope our remaining REVIEWS come in soon so I can make my final "Captain's Log post" for this round...
Sandra say's they need to be in by this saturday...

My take on the book:
I loved it! It was a hell of a lot different than I had expected it to be, but yeah, I would recommend this read :D
World building was great, the authors feeds you the info little by little as not to overdo it. Because, don't get me wrong, this book dishes out a lot of info! But all in good time.
The world in itself feels very real and alive with the different regions having different styles, impressions and beliefs which gives each their own unique feel.
Character creation was superb! There was a lot a dialogue so we get to know the characters pretty well. Tea of course first and foremost, her brother being more of a mystery.
That is why I just absolutely love the little chapters in between written from the bards point of view. These chapters really give you a heads-up just how much Tea's world will have changed in so little time!
That last chapter though... yeah... Now I just HAVE to read the next book, I need to know!! I mean, that's a serious twist right there :D
While the pacing took some getting used to (for me), I found it (and the overall flow of the book) to be excellent.
The story was very well written and even with all the information and conversations managed to keep me hooked and entertained.
There is no sex in this book (if that is important for you) nor any (or noticeable) errors.
A superb introduction to a new author. If you want your fantasy filled with geisha-like sorceresses, a seasoning of necromancy, a pinch of romance (but not too much) and just a whole lot of a heroine trying to find her way in a world that despises her... pick this one up!!!

It was an honour reading with you all ;)
Not only did I actually get to read (sub)genre's I wouldn't normally (and liked it!) but I made a dent into my TBR pile... yay :D
Art, thanks for the awesome captaining! You're a role model for all.
I hope to see you all again for the next round! Happy reading till then and big hug to you all :D

Review: Kylie Scott did a great job in this book of redeeming the bad boy from the previous couple of books. Eric was a mess, and even when this book started, he was pretty selfish. But his change was gradual, and believable. The dialogue was entertaining, and I continue to enjoy books by this author.
Happy Summer Worms!

The Vampire King by Heather Killough-Walden
210 pages ... tagged once on linked list
Read: 5/19
Rated: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½✩
Review:
"The Vampire King" started off with an attention-getting {Bang!!!}, then settled into a fairly well-written story. The world building was complete, the characters fairly well developed, the action brisk.
A couple of turnoffs were the "info-dumping" slowdown occurring after that "big bang", and the fact that "Our Hero" had been offing a person a week for THREE THOUSAND YEARS (more or less, as the author states), and our heroine will now be required to follow suit.
I read this book for a challenge, and am intrigued enough to look up more of ms Killough-Walden's books... that "info-dump" may turn out to be "Just reminders" upon further reading ...
