The author talks about her trouble in writing her memoir, including how important it is to her that she write "the truth". Her own mother wishes that she would fictionalize these memoirs in order to not expose the family. Bechdel also extensively quotes Virginia Woolf as someone who sees fiction as having a "deeper" truth. Do you see fiction as having a separate kind of 'truth' from non-fiction? If so, what is this truth and how do you separate them?
