Empress (the_empress) | 224 comments I was thinking how I would love to read Rogue's story just because I use to find it quite sad and emotional. I am also wondering if there are any stand-alone novels based on or written to feel like a comics universe. This is the one book I stumbled upon Rogue Touch, maybe I'll ignore the low rating and give it a try.

As I am not aware of most characters and story-lines, since I don't read graphic novels, I need more basic stories. So a few stand alone, possibly female POV would be nice to have in my TBR.

I do like darker themes and violence does not bother me.

Suggestions:
Rogue Touch
The Refrigerator Monologues
Wild Cards

Scott George R.R. Martin edited a series of shared-world anthologies called Wild Cards that might be what you are looking for.

Jessica (jessicalynfox) | 167 comments Magno Girl by Joe Canzano Magno Girl and the Beast of Brooklyn by Joe Canzano

When a Manhattan pizza maker is found dead in his own dough, Magno Girl enlists the aid of her biker ninja boyfriend to help solve the crime – and quickly discovers there’s more to the pie than meets the eye, including a sinister plot that spans the globe.

Magno Girl leaps into action. After all, she can fly, she can fight, and she can use her fearsome superpower, the “Gaze of the Guilt,” to bring a hardened criminal to his knees. But the road ahead is hard. The city’s other superheroes despise her, and the cops don’t want her around, and her own mom won’t stop spitting out advice about marrying a “respectable guy” and trading in her crime-fighting career for a baby carriage—but is she attracted to “respectable guys”? And is she interested in emotional commitment? And will finding real love be her biggest challenge of all?

Welcome to the world of Magno Girl, a wild and absurd place filled with humor, action, and romance.

NOTE: This book contains some profanity and adult situations.

I LOVED THIS.

I have not read these ones but based on the description I think you may like this one (if you don't mind me recommending back): The Epic Crush of Genie Lo

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Wearing the Cape: A Superhero Story by Marion G. Harmon is the first in a superhero series that follows a young woman who gains what amount to Superman's powers. The books don't really read like comics, but the author has put a lot of thought into the way the world would change if people suddenly gained superpowers, and the way we discover those changes along with the character reminds me of some of the richer comic book settings.

Karma Girl is actually the first in a series of books all set in the same world, one where there are Those Who Wear The Cape. (Giggling) Sorry, couldn't resist that. This series isn't really dark, but it has it's darkish moments. Still, it's a good read. At least from what I remember. It's been a while since I read it. Which was when it was first released. Still, I liked it well enough to give it 4 stars then. And I do like the author. I've read a number of her other books, so no hesitation about recommending books by her.

P.S. Loved Mind Games. I think the first book was the funniest but the whole trilogy is really good!
