The books are really good. I feel like the new TV show is REALLY rushing through some of the coolest parts of the mythology. Bummer. I like the show, but the books (even the movie released a few years ago) give proper attention to the things that Fantasy readers enjoy. I'm hoping this show will pick up a bit once the backstory is out there...

I think as a whole it does a good job following the books there is something that can't follow with the books because it just wouldn't make sense of that show but I enjoy it and I don't think too hard about it
