Misti Snyder | 3 comments The book begins with the hero who finds the heroine after her father commits suicide. Her father was a crazed man who had journals where he scribbled out his madness. The hero takes the heroine to her closest relatives to raise her. A few years pass and the hero goes to check on the heroine only to be told by her family that she died. She didn’t die, her family actually turned her into a house maid and the hero doesn’t recognize her. Her cousin attempts to rape her and the hero saves her from him. She decides is she is to be ruined then she wants it to be by her hero. She convinces him to sleep with her and not knowing who she is he does. He realizes in the morning that she was a virgin and feels like she intended to trap him into marriage. He takes her away to marry her. I remember a mention of him being shocked that she had cried all the way to his house because he had never known a woman to cry without making a big display of it. The story changes point of views throughout the book. They sleep in seperate rooms because he doesn’t not want to love her and only visits her when he wants. They get into a fight and he hurts her feelings and she has some depression and stops eating. I think at one point she had gotten pregnant but lost it. My memory is kind of sporadic but this is as much detail I can remember at the moment. I read at least 8-10 years ago but I don’t know when it was published. I know they took a carriage to his house so it was in an era before automotive.

Any help would be super appreciated. I have tried every search engine without luck to get the title.

Annamariah | 292 comments I googled a bit and found His Lady Mistress by Elizabeth Rolls, which seems to match your description. Could it be the book you are looking for?
