Google is our friend, but in my case it wasn't a helpful one - I'm still looking for a book I've read as a teenager. I don't remember much (no author, no title), even the plot is a bit foggy, but it was something like this: In a historical setting, a lord/gentleman was travelling with companion (relative?) and they came upon a pregnant woman. They helped her, and they discovered that she's married, and the baby was her sixth (or so) pregnancy, but all of these pregnancies had ended badly "thanks" to a really abusing husband. Then the baby was born, the lord and the woman fell in love... that's all I remember. I don't even remember if it is worthy to re-read, but it simply bugs my mind. Can anybody help me?
