Kate S | 6459 comments Rachel Carson's famous book Silent Spring warned the public about the degradation of the environment and was published in 1962. For this task, read any book that is not a novel published in OR before 1962.

Bea Well, this is a good reason to finally get Rachel Carson's book read. It has been on my TBR for 7 years!

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5290 comments A Journal of the Plague Year is shelved 942.1 at BPL, so it works here, correct?

No. I'm not sure why they chose to shelve there. It is fiction, and, in fact, BPL has another edition they shelve as such (even in storage).

Ok - I didn't see that they had another copy, and I thought it was fiction because of the fictional narrator and was surprised when I pulled it up. Can plays, short stories and poetry be used here as well as actual non-fiction?

Yes. Ed has kindly given us all extra points for this one as it will automatically qualify for Not a Novel points. (I might not get to one of them, but all of Shakespeare's plays qualify.)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5290 comments Nice! I'm glad Journal turned out fiction because now I'm pretty sure it can be my square peg. I will probably try to fit in Shakespeare or maybe Dostoyevsky or other Russian short stories, etc. for the Russian edition points.

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments I just wanted to get assurance that What Is Man? by Mark Twain will qualify as NF as GR has it. I started listening to it...and Twain's philosophy is espoused in the form of a dialogue between an old man and a young man.

Yes, we'll accept that as non-fiction. (GR shelvings are unreliable, and why we use other sources.)
