Hi Sallie so happy to have you! You are totally right better late then never so welcome welcome. I am much the same I am never without a book and it is fantastic. I think 140 is a great goal and remember it is about the books you read and not a number at the end of the day. There is still time to join a challenge and that might help you reach your goal. Please let us know if you need anything and of course happy reading.

Ginny (ginny83) | 6 comments Hi, I'm Ginny from the USA. I'm a technical writer, married, with a cute little yorkiepoo dog. I just started reading fiction again about two years ago after a long hiatus. I mostly read scifi, magical realism, and early/pre 20th century female authors.

My goal is to read 50 books this year, I'm currently at 43. I'm excited to connect with more book lovers and be part of this community!

Hi Blagica! I've read some really great books this year. My favorites so far would have to be Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. LeGuin, Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson, and the Binti series by Nnedi Okorafor. I'm stoked to read The Future is Female by Lisa Yaszik, a new scifi anthology.

What have been your faves?

message 805: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Hi Everyone! I'm Crystal from Illinois. I like to read and bake. I try to read anything that catches my eye. My goal for the year was 30 books and I passed that a few months ago. So it looks like next year I need to bump that up. I am joining because sometimes I get into reading funks where I know I want to read, but I have no idea what to read.

Sowmiya (puravidaa) | 4 comments Hi everyone, I'm Sowmiya from Houston, Texas. I mostly enjoy reading realistic fiction and memoirs. I found Goodreads a couple of years ago, although I have been active only this year as I set myself a reading goal. Goodreads is my new social media obsession in a good sense, I'm truly appreciative to have found this forum, it keeps my sanity in check :)

Evelien Hello, I'm Evelien, I am from the Netherlands and I live in Rotterdam.

I like fantasy, romance, chick lits, historical fiction and young adults books mostly, but I like pretty must everything with a strong female protagonist. My reading goal is to read more books than I do now. And I would like to read more English classics. If you have some recommendations let me know.

Thank you for having me in the group. I'm new to Goodreads, so I have some reading and figuring out to do:)

message 813: by Jackelyn Hohn (new)

Jackelyn Hohn Hi! My name is Jacqui and I’ve just recently found how much I love reading. My best friend, and cousin, Kristin, sent me a couple books that she found recommended for me. They were nothing I would’ve chosen for myself, and I loved them! I’ve been reading murder mysteries ever since. I want to get into more genres. I plan on feeling out how the group works, with challenges and buddy reads etc, for the remainder of the year. I’ll be in full swing for 2019!

message 814: by Angie (new)

Angie | 250 comments Hi, I'm Angie from New Zealand. I'm a mum of 3, a teacher aide and have loved books for as far back as I can remember. I joined to try a few different challenges on top of the 2018 Reading Challenge. Had set myself a challenge of 25 books this year and am up to book 29 now - currently reading Circe by Madeline Miller.

message 815: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12967 comments Hi Angie welcome so happy to have you join us. This group is all about challenges we had 15 yearly ones for 2018 and have lots planned for next year. That is awesome that you surpassed your goal I wish you the best with the rest of the year. Welcome again and happy page turning. Can't wait to see what you thought of Circe it's on my list for next year.

message 816: by Gaurav (new)

Gaurav Prakash | 1 comments Hi, I am from India. I was not a reader but from past 1-2 year, I had started reading. I enjoyed pretty much every genre but from few months I started preferring non-fiction books and poetry.

message 817: by Siti❤ (new)

Siti❤ | 1 comments Hi everyone! I’m Siti from Singapore. I love reading but working full time and studying part time have not allowed me to read as much as I used to. I hope to start with 10 books for 2019 and see where that’d go. My favourite books would definitely be Harry Potter! Followed by a lot of thrillers, chick flicks and some YA book. Looking forward to reading more books!!!

message 818: by Kathalena (new)

Kathalena | 1 comments Hi everyone. I am Kathy from SoCal. Have 2 daughters, one is an avid reader as I am and so between us, there are alot of books in the house. I work part time and found I have time to read as I am sitting in the car waiting to shuttle kids around. I generally am reading 2 or 3 books at any one time and thought to use good reads to keep track of what I read, like and authors to try based on the communities here. I generally read fantasy/sci-fi, horror, some paranormal/paranormal romance, historical fiction, thillers, YA fantasy and willing to try books on the recommendations of friends. Looking forward to participating in the reading challenges here.

I work in a library, so I get exposed to all kinds of books, but don't necessarily get a lot of time to read. I like reading all types of books, but I want to try more genre books outside of my usual comfort zone, especially in the upcoming year.

TEE | 267 comments Hi all. I’ve been on Goodreads now for a couple years, but only just starting to get more involved and update more often. I absolutely adore books (duh seems redundant) and tend to read in spurts of just a ton of reading, like 4 or 5 books in a week, then a dry spell of 1 book in a month.

I currently live in Florida, but will be moving in 2019 to Missouri due to my husband’s job. I joined this group because I feel I’ll have more time to read in Missouri and wanted to possibly meet potential friends who enjoy reading as much as I do, especially after the move.

So excited to get started for 2019 and get lost in many new worlds and adventures!

message 830: by [deleted user] (new)

I have been a goodreads member, but took a break to go to school and get my kids to a fairly independent age. My past reading was pretty limited to what I read. After being in a book club through the library I got exposed to a whole new world. So I hope to continue to expand my reading and have fun doing it.

Blagica | 12967 comments Welcome, Dee! Happy to have you joining us. I am so glad that surfing has brought you to us. My original goal was 209 now if I can get to 190 I will be happy. I think it is more about having fun. Yes we have already started planning 2019 I do hope you look around and join the fun. Please let us know if you need anything welcome again and happy reading =)

Blagica | 12967 comments Welcome,Barbara! Happy to have you joining us . I think it is great that you stay so active in your community and still find time to read. I think if I did all that I would barely have time. Do you have a set number of books you want to read? I hope you have a great year in books and everything else. Welcome again and happy reading. Best of luck with the grand baby!

message 833: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Hi, I'm Rebekah. I'm from NY state, and I love to read! Every year I read an average of 30-45 long books, because I read every spare second of the day. My goal for 2018 was 60 books, but not all of them were long. I'm going to do the same goal for 2019, but with longer books.

message 834: by Matt (new)

Matt Crouch | 144 comments Hello everyone, I’m Matt and I live in Indianapolis. I usually stick to mystery/thriller, sci-fi and non-fiction books. I’m been on GR for awhile and trying to get back in the habit of reading. It looks like the group might help keep me focused and motivated to take time for myself to read. My reading goal for 2018 was 12, which I’ve already surpassed. My 2019 goal is 40.

message 835: by Chrisw (new)

Chrisw | 1 comments hey there, I'm Chris and I live in Germany. I've been reading more intensively since this summer and at the end of the year I count all the books and will calculate a realistic goal for 2019. I try to keep my balance between studying, sports, learning spanish and improving english (also a few other things) and of course reading. I desperately want accent free english and spanish and anything that follows one day. Also I always read original texts, mostly in english, spanish and a few in german.
In terms of books I enjoy reading politics, social topics, history and popular science. On the contrary I like classics, contemporary ( I think but I'm not 100% sure about the genre ). I like fictional storys about people in realistic circumstances and I value highly the experience of the author in those (what genre would that be). I also like spanish novels and classics, the language has kind of a bonus effect on me. I want to catch up with a lot of books in the past and keep an eye out for newer ones. At last I love Fantasy books like Lord of the Rings and The Name of the Wind. The latter is my absolute unchallenged favourite (everyone should read it). So thats about me. Hope to share some experiences.
Enjoy your sunday!

I read science ficcion, mystery and romantic books, but i don't mind reading new types of books.
Thanks for the opportunity of being in this community.

message 837: by Brian (new)

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments Hiyyo! My name is Brian. I am 32 years old and live in New York state. I love this group and always have. I participated in it very actively a few years ago around 2013-2014 as a member of the Welcome Committee :p. Life got super busy since then!

Many transitions and changes include moving to Munich, Germany for a year, new jobs, and just very recently, discovering my birth family, something that has been a mystery for 32 years. I am blessed that they were just as eager to know who I am too.

All of this has unfortunately made it a challenge to find the time to read as much as I would like, but I am in a place where I am ready and excited to get back into reading. And the best way to do that is here, easily the best reading group I have known. I just love how friendly everybody is, and the challenges are so motivating and fun.

i read all kinds of genres but especially love historical fiction, mystery/thriller pager turners, both YA and adult sci-fi/fantasy, certain nonfiction (must be interested in the subject), classics, and literary fiction (though I definitely read commercial fiction as well).

I am very excited to get back into things, and hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and are getting close to completing your 2018 goals!

message 842: by Robin (new)

Robin | 1 comments Hi! I'm Robin. I love to read. I've been using goodreads for a long time but I decided to check out the discussion threads today. I live in a suburb near Memphis, TN. I'm 47. I have 2 boys--18 and 13. They get annoyed when I get on a reading kick. They prefer to have my undivided attention (when it suits them).

I am a fast reader, and I could read a book a day if I had no other responsibilities. I prefer fiction novels--suspense thrillers are my favorite. I also love any books with characters with disabilities. I am a certified K-8 teacher with a Special Education endorsement, and right now I am working as a substitute teacher--usually interims in Special Education positions.

I have challenged myself to read ALL of the books on my Want-to-Read list before I add any more from the recommendations but I'm always tempted to add more. Plus my mom gave me a big box of Harlan Coben novels so I'm interspersing those with my library books from the Want-to-Read list.

I'm glad to be here! Can't wait to give myself a 2019 challenge.

message 843: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie (lizziesgoodreads) Hi I'm Lizzie. I've always loved books/reading but it's only this past year that I've become really focused about it, started a blog back in February posting about each book I've read, which I found really motivating, and have just recently got to grips with Goodreads, finally. (Have now caught up posting summary reviews on here of all the books I've read this year!)
I've also started writing a bit myself this past year too, middle grade fantasy, so a lot of the books I've read have been those, but I've been dipping my toe in YA and adult fantasy too lately. I also enjoy some SF, and mysteries/crime on occasion too. And the odd classic! Not so drawn to contemporary or romance though.

I love reading, writing, and i am from England, UK. and I read mostly fiction, and YA books, which have a hint of adventure, thrill and suspense and maybe a tad bit of romance. I am planning on making my reading challenge bigger next year with a read of 34-40 books! I have loads on my want to read list and am very excited about next years challenge! Also maybe joining some group reads!
Thanks for letting me join, and happy reading!

message 845: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm Kim, 28 from Germany. I love to read basically as log as I can remember. Even before I learned how to read I was fascinated by books and when finally learning it...well, let's say I was close to read all suitable books in the public library of the town I grew up in.
There were definitly times when I read more and when I read less in my life. Since beginning of this year I try to focus more on reading even though it's sometimes hard to make time amongst working, family, friends, and other hobbies. Still, it went well so far, so I'm curious what next year will bring.

I found this group when searching for interesting reading challenges. I enjoy a pretty broad variety of genres, even though I cannot deny a particular love for everything crime, dark or mysterious (both fiction and non-fiction).
