Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2018!
Erin wrote: "Hi readers! I’m Erin—mom of two teenage boys and a 4th/5th grade teacher from Maine. I love the fact that you teach I find that teachers dont get enough credit. I hope that you enjoy your summer reading for yourself. Welcome again and happy reading.
Hello, everyone! I'm Jo, from Wisconsin. I most often read science-y books (and biographies of science-y people), historical fiction, other sorts of realistic fiction, microhistories, and poetry. I've been very slowly working my way through a long list of book recommendations from friends, which means I've been branching out a lot from my regular genre-bubble! It's been equal parts rewarding and tedious, but it's helping me reach my goal of finishing 52 books by the end of the year.
I look forward to getting more involved in the group, and I hope y'all have a great weekend!
Hi everyone!I’m Cara from Antrim, Northern Ireland.
I used to be an avid and regular reader but it all went out the window when my son was born. Needless to say, children have a tendency to rule your life!
Now that he is a little older, my main focus is to claim some of the day for myself. Hopefully in doing so, I can sit back and enjoy some great books.
I have started going to my local second hand book shop every Wednesday after work. I NEVER go away empty handed and often have to smuggle them home! I did go through the ebook phase but it was very short lived. I just can’t walk past a physical book.
Despite my ever growing book collection, I cannot pinpoint whether I have a particular genre as of yet. I certainly have ‘comfort’ genres and romance is probably at the forefront of these. However as you can expect, this leads to a whole heap of very predictable books.
I want to read books that pleasantly surprise me irrespective of their genre. In essence, I am looking for books that make me learn a little bit more about myself.
Hopefully in making friends with fellow readers I can find what I am looking for!
Xx

hi cara,
my name is michele and i am from south australia.
i have read in the past but stopped for AGES at times like you!
now i am fierce about reading. i look for books that have won literary prizes especially the big ones.
i am thoroughly enjoying them although they can be a bit 'tricky' to understand at times. i just push on through though and i work it out with some marvellous surprises.
maybe it is what you are looking for?
kind regards
michele
Hi, my name is Sam and I am from BC, Mexico. My reading history hasn't been that long, as I've only started to read regularly about three years ago. My favorite genre is fantasy by a long shot and my favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. I'm trying to read 50 books by the end of the year, and I have read 30 so far (or more realistically 28, since I DNF'd two of them.) It seemed fairly easy at the start of the year, but lately I've been in an ongoing on-and-off reading slump, so hopefully that ends soon enough so I can complete my goal :p Any advice on that would be appreciated, btw.
Hey everyone! I'm Ben and I currently live in Jacksonville Florida with my wife and three young children. I was a voracious reader as a child and teenager but lost it somewhere along the way in adulthood. I've recently dumped social media (Goodreads and LinkedIn being the only exceptions) and suddenly my appetite came back! Imagine that!I enjoy a variety of genres from suspense mysteries without a whole lot of constant death to fantasy series that seem to feature a whole lot of it. Historical biography and American conflict stories (founding fathers stuff, Civil War fiction and non, etc) also peak my interest as do slice of life stories with a message.
I'm excited to hop into this new community for me!
Hi! My name is Farah ..it means joy and happiness in Arabic .. I am from Tunisia.. I am 16.. I enjoy reading books..My goal is to read 14 books this summer.. I love reading about psychology, romance and fantasy ..
Hey everyone!
My name is Angie, I'm thirty-one years old, and I'm from sunny Puerto Rico! I've been a Goodreads member since 2012, but it hasn't been until very recently that I've become active in terms of following people, joining groups, setting reading challenges, and the like.
I've been a reader since very young, but because bookstores and libraries were somewhat limited in my area, my first encounters with books involved my dad's Agatha Christie books and my mom's psychology books, with the occasional old story book my grandma kept around the house from her teaching days. These days, I'll read just about anything, but I still lean more towards mysteries, adventures, and thrillers, with a lot of sci-fi, fantasy/urban fantasy, and historical/paranormal romances thrown in.
My goal for this year is to read at least 50 books, but also to read wide and varied. Any and all recommendations are appreciated!
Thank you for letting me a part of this community!

Hey Everyone!I’m pretty new to using good reads properly. I’ve always been a lover of books since being obsessed with Jaqueline Wilson when I was younger.
I’m now into Fiction mainly, thriller and crime. I’m a slow reader so I have set myself a challenge of reading 20 books in 2018.
My favourite book of 2018 so far is Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine. I absolutely loved book and seriously recommend everyone give it a go!

Hi Jo welcome to the group so happy to have you join us. it looks like you have tons of genres in your bubble which is great! I like you have my friends pick my books all the time which is why my goal this year is 209 books. Do you have a book that you couldn't put down this year? I look forward to seeing your book adventure best of luck.
Hello, everyone!I'm Jeanne from Vienna, Austria (not the name on my passport or bank account, but the one I always use when writing). I joined goodreads, because I realized that I need a community of active readers in my life again to keep on top of my "to be read" pile. I am currently trying to read and write more for leisure (as opposed to work...). I study computer engineering and work at the university, so most of my time is used reading scientific papers, tutorials, data-sheets, etc. and writing similar things. I have been trying (and failing) to counter that with fiction to have some sort of balance.
I have a soft spot for fantasy, science fiction and crime fiction, but will basically read anything, especially when the author's style is interesting. My favorite authors are always changing, past champions are Tolkien, Jostein Gaarder, Rafik Schami and Haruki Murakami. My favorite book last year was "The Sympathizer" by Viet Thanh Nguyen and this year so far it has been "The Vegetarian" by Han Kang, but the year's not over yet.
I'm looking forward to sharing my challenge updates with you :)

I think the more you join the more you will want to read so look around and pick a challenge to help motivate you. Welcome again and happy reading.

Hi Angie welcome to the group! I am glad you added our group to your reading journey. I think that having a limited book supply actually makes things more fun. When I was younger I use to buy 4 books a month and go from there. I hope that you have a blast here with us. Welcome again and happy reading.

Hi Paige welcome! I have heard so many people recommend your favorite book so far this year that I will have to move it up my list. I always tell people that it is not about the number of books that you read as long as you are enjoying them. I will recommend The Girl Before since you like thrillers it was my favorite book last year.

Hi Jeanne You snuck in on me welcome to the group! it looks like you have lots to say about books and love to read you have come to the right place. I don't think I have every really gotten into fantasy much what do you recommend? I hope that you have a blast with our group and give us a shout if you need anything.
Blagica wrote: I don't think I have every really gotten into fantasy much what do you recommend?Currently, my favorite series is "A Song of Ice and Fire", but we've been waiting for years for an update and Martin might die before ever finishing the 6th book, so it's a bit of a gamble ;) It has some of the best and most complex characters I have ever seen, never mind the dragons, magic and monsters. Don't be put off by the TV series, HBO apparently has a thing with showing as many gross scenes as possible. The books have real depth and are not at all pornographic or over the top brutal - even though graphic scenes are in there.

I am all caught up in the series!

Hi Penny this is actually the welcome thread that welcomes our new members I will look into it and answer your question in the question for Mods Thread.
Hello :)I'm Ashleigh, and I'm someone you would consider a (very) slow reader. I like that this has the option of 1-50, because I certainly do not have the time in my life ( :( ) to read even 50 books. My Goodreads goal is currently at 5 haha.
I love to read, I am just slow and it can take me months to get through a book. But I'm excited to join and share in the reading love :)

Hi Ashleigh welcome! We are super happy to have you join us. I think that 5 books is a great goal as long as you are having fun. I find that our group is very go at your own pace. If you need anything let us know.
Greetings,Rebecca from New Mexico.
Currently I'm reading true crime and US politics with a smattering of managerial help books to boost my work skill set. I read a lot of fiction too but it's amateur stories that are self published or release through sources like magazines. I love finding diamonds in the rough and have watched a couple authors go onto careers as writers, which is always a pleasure.
I came across this group through it's placement in the community pages as I want to join groups to help with keeping me reading. Which is a more affordable and beneficial hobby than some it's easy to indulge in. Currently almost caught up to the midway goal and feel I will easily surpass it in large part to community.
My goal is a progressing full book a week and/or a short story a day. Picked up audible to help and am back to reading daily, even if it's with my ears rather than my eyes.
Hey Everyone! I'm looking forward to interacting with you all in this group. I like the vibe.I'm Sarah originally from Seattle, WA. I have recently relocated to Houston, TX (with this heat and these bugs I'm wondering why at this very moment :)).
I mainly read fiction. Specifically mystery, suspense, and comedy. However, I enjoy a memoir, biography, or auto biography from time to time. I appreciate the classics to my core.
I recently had a baby boy so my reading goals are really tentative as I'm not sure what I can commit to. I'm shooting for 8! Wish me luck ;).
I'm new to Goodreads and I'm still figuring things out but again, looking forward to being apart of this group. REALLY looking forward to the August book I've heard great things about it.

Hey guys, I'm Josh and I live in South Carolina. I'm a pretty avid reader and I've been trying to read as much stuff as I can before I start med school in August (this is why my 2018 Reading Challenge is only 35 books). I like to read fiction, literary fiction and science/medical books. I think this group looks like a great community to discuss the books I have read/am currently reading because what's the point of reading if you can never discuss with anyone?? Looking forward to reading and discussing with y'all!

Hello, everyone! My name is Crystal and I am from Texas about to finish my last year in university. I’ve always been such an avid reader and writer, but fell off the wagon as soon as I got to college since my majors consist of a lot of reading and analysis, leaving little room/incentive for me to try to read for fun. This year, I have decided to read again for fun, starting with 20 books and I’ve already almost reached the goal, so I’m increasing it to 50! My hopes is to get to meet other avid readers across different genres and learn more about the world around me. Please do not hesitate to give me book recommendations and happy reading!

Hello Everyone :)I'm Arturo, I'm living in Mexico City and one of my goals in this year is to read at at least 30 books. I love to read all kinds of book so I don't have a specific genre: if you check my reading challenge I've read essays, astrophysics, history, philosophy, non fiction, etc., so I'm open to everything. I didn't know this group until I achieved 18 and it's great to see people who has the same goals. I'm grateful to join this group and I hope the books I have read, can inspire to others.
Hi, Everyone!I'm Jennifer from Vancouver, BC, where I live with my husband and two young boys. I've been a student at the University of Toronto for the past two years, studying creative writing through their online program. I've completed the coursework and am now embarking on my final project, which also frees up more time to read!
Admittedly, my book challenge is modest but would like to see that list grow as the year goes on. :)
Thank you for having me in this fantastic group. I look forward to reading with you all!

Hi Everyone! My name is Elleni and I am from Sydney, Australia. I am currently in my second year of University studying a Bachelor of Teaching (Majoring in Visual Arts and Literature). I have always been a dedicated reader and writer. Once I've opened a book or put pen to paper, it is impossible for me to stop.
At the moment, my book challenge fairly short as I have just been able to jump on the wagon again due to the many stresses of Uni. However, I unmistakably am looking to expand my list and continue to discover the many wondrous books out there. I am thrilled to see what the rest of this year will bring me.
Thank you so much for allowing me to join your group! I will undoubtedly, look forward to reading with all of you.
