I forgot to post my review but I too read this book. I really enjoyed it but Japanese literature, especially contemporary literature,is among my favorite.
This books deals with grief, loss, love, and family and it also have an LGBTQ+ character although I felt her storyline was less developed than I would have liked.
Sparse writing and minimal plot, this book was about the general themes than it was about getting from points A to Z. I have found it very interesting that so much of the Japanese literature I have read has revolved around themes of loneliness and isolation. I enjoyed the book and loved the descriptions of food that were weaved throughout the narrative.
