The nominations thread for the April Fiction Read is now open, please suggest your book choices below.

Please remember that:
1. We do not allow self-promotion or self-published books.
2. All books need to be seconded by someone else in order to get to the voting stage and
3. Nominations must be readily available in as many formats as possible at a reasonable price.

This thread will remain open until the 6th March and then will be closed for voting.

Having come second in the last poll The Robber Bride automatically goes through and does not need to be re-nominated or seconded.

Nominated:
The Famished Road
The Lie of the Land
Paris in the Present Tense
The Largesse of the Sea Maiden

Nominated and Seconded:
The Robber Bride
The Witchfinder's Sister
Stay with Me
Exit West
The Venetian Game
The City & The City
1984
The Invention of Wings

I'll nominate Stay with Me by Ayobami Adebayo.

It's had very good reviews, and good for the Magic Square as it's a first novel and a shortlisted book.

SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2017 BAILEYS WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION
LONGLISTED FOR THE 2018 INTERNATIONAL DYLAN THOMAS PRIZE
NEW YORK TIMES 100 NOTABLE BOOKS OF 2017
GUARDIAN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2017
THE ECONOMIST BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2017

Sandy | 20 comments I’ll nominate Paris in the Present Tense. It is literature of the highest order, and the novel discusses music, philosophy, and altruism while its protagonist commits a great crime to save his grandson from certain death. Mark Helprin’s writing is exquisitely brilliant, humorous, and magically metaphorical.

message 7: by Wendy (new)

Wendy I'd like to nominate The Famished Road by Ben Okri please

Beartown was nominated by Gisela but not seconded, but I can't edit the list above, just wanted to acknowledge it.
