I am going to nominate a French Noir book, "How's the Pain", by Pascal Garnier.None of his books has many ratings, and I don't understand why: could it be ratings from readers in other countries don't get counted?

Mary Stewart may have been one the first to write mystery/suspense/romance books. She was one of the first to write heroines that actually helped solved problems instead of standing around screaming. This is one of my favorites.

Hi Kate. Thanks for checking. If you look back at message 10 I noted that it didn't qualify because it has too many ratings.

Hello! I'd like to nominate one of the best books I've read so far this year -- The Cold War: A World History by Odd Arne Westad, a history professor at Harvard. No doubt about it -- at 650+ pages, this book is a commitment. But it's also brilliant, plainspoken, and even addictive. I was born the year the Soviet Union fell, so I have no firsthand experience of the Cold War. But seeing the connections Dr. Westad makes cast whole swathes of recent global history and contemporary politics in a new and fascinating light. By the end, I felt like I'd taken a masterful and truly perspective-altering university seminar.

The rules of the group state the book must be at least six months old. You can certainly nominate a different book now, and nominate Freshwater again later on this year.
