Book Nominations for Portal/ Gateway Stories Group Read

Wow, my library doesn't have any of those. Well, they have Stardust, but I've read it before.

I'm excited to try Moonwise, and I ordered it from Abe Books. These are a hard to find set.

My library has The Treachery of Beautiful Things but not Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth: Her Stories and Hymns from Sumer or Moonwise. I've requested them as inter-library loans.
I've also read Stardust already.

My library has The Treachery of Beautiful Things (and Stardust, of course, which I haven't read yet - don't judge me lol) but my library can't get Inanna or Moonwise. That's the only reason I didn't vote for those two.

OH, darn. I own a copy of Moonwise so I didn't think to look up how hard it would be to find. I didn't realize libraries didn't have it!

I've already read Stardust once, but I might re-listen to the audio if I get some time.

The flowery, super girly cover on The Treachery of Beautiful Things kind of scares me.

Robyn, if you--or anyone else--would like to do a buddy read of Gilgamesh, I'd be happy to participate. I've read it several times and am in the process of finalizing a retelling of it as my next novel.

My concern has to do with romance - how much, what kind, etc. I'm super picky about romances in general and in modern fairy tales more so.

The story sounds like the kind I like. I wouldn't go by the cover. Remember Except the Queen (which Mary also nominated). The story was so different from how I thought it would be going by the cover.

Lately whether or not my library had the book is the criteria fir which I vote.

By all means set up a buddy read! My library actually has Gilgamesh and that's why I voted for it, so I might join in.

Well, it's more than just the cover. about a quarter of the people who've read it have shelved it as romance, and even the blurb says it's a romance in the very first sentence.

The rest of the blurb does sound interesting, but the romance part combined with the cover doesn't. I"ll give it a try though!

Okay, that makes for a definite reread then! I'm excited to see when your novel comes out too.

It will be a while before my novel, Gilgamesh of Uruk, comes out. At the moment, I am immersed in making an audio book of my first novel, A Pomegranate and the Maiden.

Quite a task, believe me.
