Monica (monica_h) | 1 comments I have had a quote stuck in my head for literally decades. I'm pretty sure it's from a Koontz! Can anyone help me? It's something about how you can throw a rock in a pond, and the water ripples. Eventually the water settles, and the ripples are gone, but the rock remains in the pond. It was an analogy about how actions you do or words that you say have an immediate, visible impact on someone and that eventually that visible reaction won't be there anymore but how, no matter what you do, the impact will always remain on that person.

From the Corner of His Eye has a lot of quotes about the ripple effect.
Examples:

"Sometimes these sympathetic vibrations are very apparent, but a lot of the time, they're so subtle that you can hear them only if you're unusually perceptive . . .
When you cut Naomi's string, you put an end to the effects that her music would have on the lives of others and on the shape of the future. You struck a discord that can be heard, however faintly, all the way to the farthest end of the universe."

- From The Corner of His Eye, near the end of Chapter 13

Each smallest act of kindness reverberates across great distances and spans of time, affecting lives unknown to the one whose generous spirit was the source of this good echo, because kindness is passed on and grows each time it's passed, until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage years later and far away. Likewise, each small meanness, each expression of hatred, each act of evil.
-This Momentous Day, H. R. White

Ha Ha. I wish :-) I'm just a very devoted fan like all you other Koontzlanders. The writing of Dean Koontz has affected my life for good, as it has many others.

Well, it's not the exact quote Monica is searching for. I did a search on the internet with key words and From the Corner of His Eye was the top result. I looked at my copy to see which passages I had marked - the two quotes above are variations on a theme, but if anyone can find the Water & Ripple Quote I'm sure Monica would appreciate it :-)

I feel the same about Koontz and his books. His stories and he, himself have affected my life.
