Sandra | 31545 comments Yes, publishers re-use isbns all the time.

So what you're saying is that the Shogun edition is the wrong one?

message 3: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31545 comments Hasham, when they do a new cover, we add another edition showing that cover, its called an Alternative Cover Edition.

I'll revert the page numbers and add a new edition, unless its already been done. I'll have to investigate :)

Sandra | 31545 comments LOL. I've added an ACE but left the date blank, as WorldCat has 2009, and amazon has 1999 & 2013 with that cover, though different editions.

Are you sure it says 2017 on your copyright page?

Sandra | 31545 comments Yes, Dell is an imprint of Hodder & Stoughton.

Sandra | 31545 comments Hasham, do you have any links to covers & book details?

message 7: by lethe (new)

lethe | 16368 comments Waterstone's is not allowed as a source for book covers and other info.

Sandra | 31545 comments What about the publisher Hasham? They should have the new covers & details added. Publishers are listed on the link Rivka gave, as an acceptable source.

Sandra | 31545 comments Hasham, excellent. We can add all the covers, however, you'll notice that the date is 1999. Obviously, your copies are reprints, and we don't add extra copies with the date of each reprint (some books are reprinted multiple times, sometimes even the same year).

So I'll add the covers and create ARCs but the date will be 1999 etc.

Sandra | 31545 comments All done. I've cross-posted them all with the original isbn books, so you should always be able to find them using the isbn :)

They're all such beautiful covers, I'm surprised they weren't already on here.

If there's anything that needs to be changed, just post again :)

Hasham wrote: "Yeah, it states 2017 on copyright in the book."

Does it by any chance state that the 2017 copyright applies to the cover image? If so, we can set the pub dates for any edition that so states to 2017.

message 13: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31545 comments WorldCat has the same cover for Shogun as 2009, does that make any difference?

It depends what the copyright says, but it does make it less likely.

message 15: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31545 comments OK we'll wait to see what Hasham says. :)

I have never seen specified in a book that the copyright is for the cover image. I think the publisher's site sticks to the original pub date, just as Amazon does with cover changes to Kindle editions.

If Hasham's books say 2017, I think we can use that, unless/until someone else comes along who has an earlier edition with those covers.

WorldCat states 2009.

I don't know. Covers in Worldcat aren't that reliable.

It would be in addition to, not instead of, the book's copyright. But I have many books which state this, especially second or later printings.

Looking through all the WorldCat titles for that author I'm coming to the same conclusion :(

Many covers seem to jump around for 20 yrs, and we know that just isn't right.

Perhaps the 2017 is correct after all.

message 22: by lethe (new)

lethe | 16368 comments Yes, at least we can be sure that the cover is right for that year. It can always be updated if someone has an earlier edition with that cover and ISBN.

message 23: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31545 comments Changed them all to 2017.
