Do you have life goals you strive to achieve or go with the flow?

When I was younger I just went with the flow. But now since there are things that I want to accomplish and gain, I have to set goals and push myself to achieve them. Not to say that there isn't times where I won't just go with the flow but it has to something that is worth my time.
I have almost always followed goals, and depending on how you assess them, I have generally achieved them - it has been getting others to agree with me where i have failed. Also failed in one sense with ebooks - sales are not exactly scintillating :-( Still, I persist. Next goals are to speak at an international conference in June on astrobiology to see if I can persuade any to consider my theory on planetary formation, and to finish my book on the application of guidance waves to chemical bond theory. That will not be a hot seller, but I shall at least have archived my work.
When I was younger, I set goals, and I achieved them. Those goals were set based mainly on what others expected of me. Now that I'm older, I set goals daily. I have a list. I feel good when I can check things off, but I'm also okay with moving less important things to tomorrow's list. Tomorrow is another day.

What's your approach?
