Cindy | 522 comments #4. Speaking of things changing – were there things that surprised you and showed how much life has changed in the last 80 years? For example, I was just shocked when Betty left her sleeping baby alone in the car at the fair!

Chelsea | 562 comments Yeah! That was a huge "WHAT!?" for me with the baby. The catalogs to order things, and running water being a huge deal. And when she mentions trying to do the latest hair fashions.

Barb (deckerbunch) | 227 comments The catalog thing wasn't that long ago! I remember pouring over catalogs just like Betty did! My husband and I drooled over seed and tree catalogs..., but then again, I am a few years older than you, Chelsea!

Chelsea | 562 comments @Barb haha. The Seers catalogue ? My mom got the JC Penny catalogue in the mail. But I guess back when that's the only store that could get to you.

Cindy | 522 comments I agree about the running water, Chelsea. I can sort of imagine that people used to live without it. But having had it, then living without it?!? That's just crazy!

M.E. Hembroff (mhembroff) | 93 comments I might be a bit older than some of you. I remember both the sears and eaton's catalogues which are now a thing of the past. I grew up without running water but having it and then having to do without it would be a struggle. As a child and adult I would look through the catalogues. It was a way of window shopping. One just had to watch you didn't want things you knew you couldn't afford. Now a lot of that is done online with Amazon and other websites.
