Fan Casting

You knew this was coming, didn't you? Luna and I made a fan cast board on Pinterest but I haven't gotten on at all (and I'm sorry) so I thought it might be easier if we posted our ideas/pictures here so that Verena could participate w/o Pinterest and so that if I don't get on Pinterest very much, I could at least get on here. Also this could be like a springboard - we could narrow down all our ideas for Mrs. Tifton (for example), on here and then pick our favorite and put her on the pinterest board.

Tell me what you think! (also this is for present-day characters, not 4-yo Batty or 12yo Skye. If you have a really good one, post it here but not the board.)

I'm not on Pinterest (anymore), but I would like to see your pins, of course. I've got only two suggestions: Emma Stone in the movie "Aloha" for Skye (I've mentioned it earlier, but I think after watching the movie again that she would be perfect for Skye and not for "Marianne".) And Posy from Ballet Shoes for Lydia. I know that her hair isn't quite perfect in the movie, but she loves to dance. Do movie characters count? I'm not so happy with fan casts because they'll influence the imagination. So I wouldn't be a active picture hunter.

Well I think of who I imagine the character as being and then keep my eye out for an actor/ess/picture of someone who looks like what I'd imagine. Half the ppl I pick are stock photos :P and the other half I have no idea what they're like, if they're funny or serious or weird, and I basically just focus on their appearance. So if you do that, it'll probably help instead of hurt your imagination ;)

Do you have pics of them that look like the characters? bc when I'm looking, sometimes one picture will look a lot like what I imagined the character, but the other pictures of the same person aren't as good, that's all. :)

I didn't mean a certain pic. If you google it, you'll find something and then you could decide if it is worth looking for a good picture.

Batty??? I meant Lydia!!! Especially because of her red hair! In book 5 Batty will be too old for Posy. But Lydia could be similar to Batty since they're sisters.

I could see that... but it's hard to imagine, maybe because Posy's so big and we haven't read about Lydia being big yet. If only we could find a younger Posy :P

And that's not a bad Skye but I think she should have straight hair, like VERY straight.

Well, if that's your Skye...(I could imagine Emma Stone-Allison Ng in the movie- as Skye. At least I do, but we don't have to argue about that. Allison is working for military and NASA I think, that's why I considered her matching to Skye)
Skye is actually beautiful. It would be cute if she could get a makeover- but it wouldn't last a long time :) Skye would never become an actress (:
And I'm so glad that Lydia will be in the same age as Skye in the book. I always imagined Lydia as Posy. It would be interesting if she really dances ballet like Posy, but at least Lydia is dancing.
By the way, the German edition has illustrated covers with the Penderwicks and I guess there's a little deviation, but least I'm very influenced of it. But I don't know something about the last book in German. So I don't have any special information (it could be revealed in May, and perhaps include more spoilers)

@Luna: first one was excellent (I've never seen one I like and this one is almost perfect!) but if I could be totally blunt (it's not personal), the second one I hate. I do not like that Skye. But I love the first one, you picked a perfect Skye! :D

@Verena: so the German cover has actual faces instead of silhouettes? That's depressing.

@Luna: I agree with Twicebaked, take better the first one! (sorry that I'm not good at fan casting).
@Twicebaked: The faces aren't very clear or natural, but there are general looks. They deviate from two other editions that have the Penderwicks on cover (the British and the Hebrew). In any case you got a certain idea how the girls look and perhaps the fan cast isn't so necessary for me that's why. But you see some action like in the original.

Well on mine it's just the silhouettes of them (like the cover photo on this group, or the profile picture). I think it would be kind of hard to fan cast from just those, though, so maybe it's better to have a picture of them. :P

Yes, I've seen the original covers. What do you mean with "to have a picture of them?" Would you like to see the German covers? All we have firstly is the book descrption and all covers are interpretations. Like how dark or bright the hair is or if smooth or curly. And of course the dog, the house, the actions...it's influence. (By the way, I can't count how different Little Women is portrayed on book covers!)
I used to create my book heroines sometimes with an online dollmaker, but it's not the same. The trouble with fancasts is actually for me that I don't know their story or character. The other way round is easier, like finding interesting characters in other movies or magazines and creating a new story with them, and seeing the same person in different pictures, but making an unique story. This is my way, I need more than only a cast (:

Well for me, I already have an idea of what they're like, so all I want is a face to match their personality which isn't generally super hard (though in this case it is idk why).

If you have a picture of the German covers, yeah I would definitely like to see them! I just meant picture like when they have an illustration of the character on the book and you can see what they look like (or, what the illustrator thinks they look like).

If you don't find it with "Penderwicks German edition", you can also use the titles "Die Penderwicks", "Die Penderwicks zu Hause", "Die Penderwicks am Meer", "Neues von den Penderwicks". Published by Carlsen Verlag. Then you can see the books I fell in love with. It's a bit odd to talk in English about books I've read only in German. But I don't know about a fifth book in German. ( I search on Google.de, but I think you'll find it also otherwise)

btw guys I found it rlly helpful when I was doing a fan casting w/ friends that if you google what you imagine the person as looking like (e.g. Skye, searching for "skinny blonde with blue eyes") that it's pretty successful. At least for the book I was doing. ;)

And now I could see your board. Well done, but I couldn't help you. I even can't guess which picture is which character (except Skye). There doesn't seem to be a description. I can't work with hair style pictures,sorry, I prefer "stories" of the pictures. My "trailer" would be more fantasy-imagination-related (Rosalind: Rapunzel from Tangled with brown hair, Skye: Odette from Swan princess, Jane: Anya/Anastasia, Batty: Thumbelina)
I won't force anyone to read my fanfic and writing in a foreign language (English in my case) is not the same. The chapters aren't very long. Please note that I've introduced Nick recently (:. But even if I will jump a bit in the plot, I will try to write a nice, satisfying happy end for Skye and Jeffrey (and the other couples). (Please note, I haven't read the books in English, so I have to guess the original quotes). By the way, there's a time shift, I think. It's now exacty half past seven p.m. here.

Sometimes Pinterest does that. If you click on the picture itself, it will enlarge it and show you the description below and you can see which is which. Are you looking on a phone or a computer? I think phones tend to do it more :)

Batty does seem like Thumbelina to me! Lydia does too, but I think that's because of the Princess Dandelion Fire thing that makes her kind of like a fairy lol. But Batty comes across as, like, idk, slim and small (prob because she's so shy).

I'll HAVE to go read it - I keep forgetting bc I'm not on a ton and when I am it's to catch up on GR updates lol. But I am not just ignoring your story! I would defs read it bc I mean if it has Skeffrey in it, then I am all for it lol :)

It's true that Pauline is a bit mean sometimes, but there is actually never a "forgiving scene". Petrova tells Pauline her opinion, but she's a far too nice character. Well, now everybody found a similarity and a difference to the Fossil girls. I'm also not a confident dancer like Posy, but I love watching her (:. And the Jeffrey picture isn't ugly, it's classic. But I wouldn't choose it for Jeffrey (his hair isn't dark), but for Artie. Anyway, this is my Artie in my fanfic.
