Peter | 36 comments I read this probably in the 70s, and I’m not sure if it’s a book or a short story.

In the story, someone, a woman, I think, visits Q Street some time in the future to buy steak. I think this is illegal, and people normally eat synthetic meat because real meat is in short supply. She feels guilty, and thinks of it as Queer St because queer things happen there.

I have no other memories of the plot.

Peter --
What country is the book set in?
What age group was it written for, approxiametely?

Also, You can bump your book every month or so. This keeps your book towards the top of the Unsolved Folder where more people are likely to see you query. It's better than being on page 27.

Peter | 36 comments Thanks, I’m not sure of any other details. No idea what country other than probably an English speaking country. Age group - probably adult, but maybe young adult.

Cycad | 133 comments I've read this, I believe. It was in an Ellery Queen Mystery of the Year anthology, if I remember correctly.

Thanks, it could be “Number 10 Q Street” by Helen McCloy, from the 1963 issue. I will have to track down a copy to be sure.

Bumping since Peter posted today.

Peter | 36 comments I still haven’t found a copy to check this. Until I do, can I somehow mark this as solved? I don’t want people spending time on it just because I haven’t checked what’s most likely the answer.

Banjomike | 133 comments Number 10 Q Street is also in The Singing Diamonds and Other Stories.

It can be read (most of it) Here
