SOLVED. Short book by Indian author about infidelity [s]

Hello! I'm looking for a beautifully written fiction novel I read years ago, but whose title and author escapes me. It was a very short book about a man who falls out of love with his wife and eventually leaves her (I think). I believe it was written by an author with an Indian (as in Asia) surname, although he may not actually be based in India and the story isn't set in India either. I thought it was Salman Rushdie but no luck there. I also believe the cover was lime green and I read it around 2003-2004.
