Hannah | 5 comments I read a book around the year 2014, I only read the first few chapters but there was a girl in prison for being “unnormal, or unusual” like she has this weird ability people are afraid of I think(not really sure). But she thinks about her family and as the author introduces them you find out the the main girl’s sister is the better sibiling, better hair, polite, etc. Im pretty sure it takes place in the future. Some genres it might be are sci fi, young adult, or fiction

Hannah, if you put a little info into your thread title you'll get more people checking it out. Most of our group only check out the threads that they think they have a chance of solving, and if it doesn't say anything about that genre they ignore the thread. (Except for us moderator types who tend to be a bit OCD and all.)

Now for a few questions--where is the book set--medieval fantasy, historical fantasy? Does she really have an ability--or do people just THINK that because she looks different (red hair, eyes that are 2 different colours, a brunette/blond in a land where the other is predominate) she has a handicap of some type--stutter, harelip, limp etc. Any memory of the cover? What format did you read it in? Do you think it was a "big name" author or a generally unknown author?

If you are using the app, you can't edit the titles, just ask for help and a mod will fix it for you.

Hannah | 5 comments Ann aka Iftcan,
Thank you for the suggestions, I am kinda new to this. I don’t think it is anything historical but possibly more of today’s time and maybe the past. Ive only read the first few chapters. I think it might actually be that the people think she does because of how she looks, but I havent read about exactly how she got in jail the first place. I read a hardcover copy of the book and it was when I was in middle school so I think the cover got taken off and the front was just black and it just shower the title on the side. It’s possible that it is a big name author, for some reason when I was trying to remember the title I kept thinking of “The Lightning Theif” maybe it was a book similar to it?

Shatter Me

Except for the part about the sister this sounds similar to Shatter Me. It was published in 2011 and the book starts with a girl living in a lock-down mental facility/prison because her parents are afraid of her abilities

Hannah | 5 comments I have read the beginning of Shatter Me. The setting is familiar, it wasn’t an asylum, it was an actual jail cell. Also the girl was alone, a man never came into the cell with her. The first few chapters went into detail about herself, her looks especially when comparing her to her sister. Her thoughts were similar to Mare’s in the Ref Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

Carly Lenhardt (carlylenhardt) | 9 comments Almost sounds like The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. However, it also sounds like Shatter Me.

Hannah | 5 comments I don't think it's The Darkest Minds either. I feel like people locked her up because they believed she had abilities even though she didn't.

Hannah | 5 comments the time setting is more likely in the near future than in the past. But I think she might’ve lived in some run down place.
