Kevin I have been looking for more books that can come close to the action packed and realistic dark fantasy that is Joe Abercrombie. I have tried many series and am starting to dry up on recommendations. Is anyone else down the same rabbit hole? Any thoughts on what author I should try next?

Series and authors that I have read and enjoyed-

The first law - Joe Abercrombie
Raven's shadow - Anthony Ryan
Chronicle of the unhewn throne - Brian Staveley
The ties that bind - Rob J Hayes
Wolf of the north - Duncan M Hamilton
Iron Age - Angus Watson
Weapon of flesh - Chris A Jackson
Stormlight Archive - Brandon sanderson
Chaos awakens - Heath Pfaff

Daniel Griffin Gentlemen Bastards Series: Scott Lynch
Demon Cycle: Peter V Brett
Broken Empire Series: Mark Lawrence
Traitor Son Cycle: Miles Cameron
Kingkiller Chronicles: Patrick Rothfuss
Mistborn Series: Brandon Sanderson

Kevin Thanks for the recommendations!

I have tried and loved Kingkiller Chronicles, Mistborn, and Gentleman Bastards. The only reason I didn't list them is they are not as hack and slash as what I am looking for. I have gotten samples of the other three, but never ended up buying them. I will definitely give all three another shot. I have tried three newer series that are not finished that you may enjoy.

You die when you die - Angus Watson
A Sellswords Compassion - Jacob peppers
Rise of the Ranger - Phillip C. Quanintrell

Any other series you could throw my way would be appreciated :)

I have also read Michael J Sullivan, Robin Hobb, Michael G Manning, Kel Kade, and Brent Weeks and have enjoyed them, just consider them a step below the rest.

Michael Taylor Would really recommend The Broken Empire and The Red Queen's War by Mark Lawrence. You can read either series first because even though they interact, they don't ruin any plots within the series. Prince of Thorns Prince of Fools

If you prefer following multiple characters, similar to First Law, try The Axe and the Throne It's fantastic.

Tom Barton Have you tried the grim company lots more magic than the first law but I thought the world it's set in and the characters were similarly grim and gritty

Buffy The Steel Remains
The Cold Commands
and The Dark Defiles by Richard K Morgan
are the closest i've found
just finished
Wolves by D.J. Molles
which satisfied a shred of similarity

Mohamed Sabri Ben Chaabane Hello! Am I late to this thread?
I quickly brushed over the comments and I'm amazed to find that no one mentions Malazan Book Of The Fallen by Steven Erickson.
It might be a lot thicker and more complicated than The First Law and contains a lot more magic but it feels so realistic regardless. The characters' conversations and thoughts are nothing short of deep and meaningful and at times relatable.
