Melaslithos | 1360 comments Is Google Books an acceptable source/url for books in the public domain, and available only there?

Google Books is a bookseller and may not be used as a source for covers or other book data.

Melaslithos | 1360 comments OK. And how about Gallica (or Europeanna)? Is it an acceptable URL for books, such as in this example? It is a book that has been scanned and republished by the BNF (National Library of France)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Gallica is the digital version of the National Library of France, and is making available freely a lot of free of rights book. Please check here:

Europeanna is basically the same on an European scale:

The URL field is only to be used for author or publisher pages for the book.

Libraries are generally acceptable sources for covers and book data, unless their terms of use state otherwise. But the don't belong in the URL field.

Melaslithos | 1360 comments Actually, in the case I mentionned, it's a book published in 1880 that has then been numerized by the French National Library (BNF), and then republished by the BNF in Partnership with Hachette (a French publisher).

On Amazon, both BNF and Hachette are marked as publisher. Not sure if in this case, it really can be considered as a publisher, and therefore, if the URL is valid or not?

If it's unclear whether they are the publisher, please err on the side of not including the URL, which is always optional.
