Now during Lent am focusing on non-fiction; currently reading The Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila and Parenting the Wholehearted Child by Jeannie Cunnion.

Thanks for asking!

I also want to read something specifically for Black History month but keep getting side tracked by library requests that have been rolling in. I’ve also been working on the Modern Mrs. Darcy’s list of 16 books to cozy up with in Winter which has been fun.
The Color Purple is really intense but so good! I might read The Crossover this week for my Black History month pick. I have also heard good things about Brown Girl Dreaming which is another book all in verse that would be a fast read.

I've heard really good things about Brown Girl Dreaming too, but I have not been able to bring myself to read a book in verse yet. Something about the format seems really off-putting, but I really should try it before I dismiss the idea!

_Hillbilly Elegy_ -I really enjoyed it!
_Full Cicada Moon_ -another book in verse. Once you get used to the format they are really quick to read and delightful.
_Snow Falling on Cedars_ -I liked this one overall but it was a bit long winded with the descriptions and there are a few sex scenes that caught me by surprise.
I’m going to start _In this House of Brede_ today. I’ve heard good things, but hoping it’s not slow paced like the above book. I also have _Rebecca_ on deck, a classic that’s been on my TBR list for a while.
It's Black History Month so I specifically chose books from black authors for February (although I try to read from a variety of authors year round.)
Right now, I am reading Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates for my non-fiction pick. I'm having a little trouble with some of the generalizations he makes, but overall, this has been an engaging and enlightening read.
For my fiction book, I'm working on The Color Purple. I almost gave up a few chapters in because the content was so disturbing. Breaks my heart to think people grow up in a world where it's ok to beat and abuse others. I'm near the end now and glad I stuck with it.
And then totally unrelated to Black History Month, I'm still working on the first Harry Potter as a nightly read aloud with my little kids.
What about you?
