This book is called "brave new world". In the end he ends up dying correct? I'm pretty sure this is what you're looking for. Check it out and let me know.
I don't think this is Brave New World; the main character is an adult (although there is a flashback scene near the beginning that includes his mother), and there are no big machines or video chat. When you say, "being eaten by a machine" can you explain a little more? Do you mean literally devoured, crunched, consumed? or do you mean their souls are consumed, or their identities?
When you say, "he reads a story (something machine)" do you mean he reads a story ON a machine, or he reads a story ABOUT a machine, or he reads a story whose title is "Something Machine"?
The story about someone being eaten by a machine is called the machine stops by e. M. Forster. This is a story mentioned within the book I read, though.
According to wikipedia, Stephen Baxter has a story "Glass Earth, Inc." (1997) which refers explicitly to "The Machine Stops." Baxter's story is in the collection Phase Space.

Anyways the main character starts questioning society and there's a room where its like a theater and you video chat with other people in it (can't remember why but its an important thing) and at one point he reads a story (something machine) about people living underground, getting eaten by a machine, and a boy escapes and tries to save his mother but she refuses to accept anything new.
And that's all I got.
