Ember had been launched directly into Gretchen while flying. The little devilish girl laughing like crazy as she spun her weapon above them. Hitting a tree with her weapon on the way down she manged to change their trajectory enough to go crashing down into a deep part of the river. The two popping up later in possible pain from the fall, but could still find themselves being able to move. "That was awesome!" the small girl latched to Gretchen's back laughed.
Gretchen felt rather sickly, but decided to hide her internal trauma as much as possible. She had failed the most critical first impression to Ozpin immediately, right off the bat! She felt like apologizing, but that was admitting weakness. "Yeah! You were great," she enthused.
"Ha yeah, now lets go," Ember said as she swam towards the edge of the river and clambered out to retrieve her weapon, which had gotten stuck on the tree she used to change their trajectory.
She got out to help this girl. It did not help that she hated heights. She looked slightly sick. “Which direction did we come from?” She checked.
"Lets see..." Ember said as she looked at the weapon. "If it's stuck on this side we probably came from this way," she said, pointing back towards the cliff they were shot from. Taking the weapon back out from the tree she slid down and smiled. "Well, looks like you'll be sticking with me!" Ember said as she playfully punched Gretchen's shoulder. "What weapon ya got anyways? You look like you come from wana those fancy places with all the big fancy guns," she said bluntly as the two started to walk. As she waited for an answer she pulled out a flask and started to drink from it.
“Just Dust,” she smirked, holding onto the hilt of her katana. She had two other blades strapped to her back, each in a solid sheath, completely concealed. “Just trust that I can handle myself.” She liked this girl. She didn’t point it out. She didn’t humiliate her. She was a good person. Gretchen would definitely prove herself now!
"Hay! Don't worry. I don't use any of that fancy gun stuff either!" she said proudly as she beat her weapon to her chest. "Not that I could use any of the guns if I wanted to anyways," she shrugged, more of just a battle loving girl more so than a good person.
She chuckled, nodding her head. "Doesn't help that my aim is awful. I like getting up and close when I fight," she nodded. After all, her semblance meant that she could impart her own pain on her enemy. Up close and personal was best for that.
"Eh, flames and metal don't go well together," Ember said before producing a small flame in her hand to show off her own semblance to her new partner.
She smirked at her new friend. "You really melt them? You can make fire that hot?" It was a very impressive semblance; not many could harness a force of nature.
"Eh, or just so hot it burns the skin to touch, but yeah, saying I melt weapons is way cooler," Ember chuckled as she looked around. "Where were we going again? Some ruins?" she asked.
“Yeah,” she nodded. “I’m afraid my semblance doesn’t do much for speed in this situation. It’s more combat oriented. If we’re quiet, we shouldn’t have too much trouble.” Gretchen was very unaware of the cruel irony that three large Ursas were encircling the pair.
