Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron gripped his sword tightly. He had never been nervous in battle before, but Aaron swore that if had been any weaker, his sword would fall to the ground from the amount of shaking he was doing. But he stood his ground and watched the door, as if the door itself would attack him. SLAM. "They're here!" He said as the door shakes in its frame. He heard low growling and he swallowed hard again. "Prepare yourselves. Steady..." He said to the maids. Knowing full well none of them would survive this onslaught of the dead.

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa moved across the room, plucking a sword up from the floor. The weight was familiar to her, the steely glint of it's edge welcoming. Crossing the floor, she positioned herself closer to the door hoping to take the brunt of the force away from the other woman. Glancing at Aaron, she saw his restlessness in the way he shifted uneasily.
As the slam echoed through the hall, Risa dipped the blade adjusting her arms into an offensive position. His voice whispered inside her, a blistering demon from her past. If they don't get you now, then it will be later. You can't ever win, only postpone the end.
Risa gritted her teeth, ignoring the voice. She was prepared.

message 53: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron waited patiently for the plague to enter his quarters. He looked over his shoulder to the small woman who had decided to arm herself, and fight. Risa. He smiled ever so slightly, as if there was something to hope for after all. He had hoped to protect at least her from what ever was coming through that door.
Slam. The door rumbles again, this time with much great force. He gritted his teeth and re adjusted his grip once more. "This is it.... They are almost through..." He said lowering himself and preparing to charge.

message 54: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments The doors gave way, splintering from the walls with an ear deafening screech. Debris from the door sailed through the air, pelting both Aaron and Risa in dust and wood fractures. The plaque hurled through, inhumanly fast. Their steps lumbering and sloppy.
Risa greeted the first with a swish of the blade, arcing it's steely body through the neck of the nearest corpse. A splattering of redish green fluid gushed from the plaque as it's head rolled from it's shoulders, arms clawing the air frantically.
Gasping from the combined alien-like state of the beings, and the force with which she slew it, she ducked as another one plunged towards her.

message 55: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron quickly covered his face as the splinters exploded into the air. Before he knew it, the maid, Risa had already slew one. His eyes widened as another quickly replaced it and went for her. He did an upward horizontal slash, taking the monster's head clean off. The body continued forward and hit Risa. But he didn't have time to make sure she was okay. For now that 2 had been slain, 4 more had taken their places. "How the hell?" He yelled out, slashing and chopping any limbs that he could get to without jeopardizing his own safety. "We need some place better to go. The castle." He said to any maids who remained. He wasn't counting. Only cutting.

message 56: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments As the corpse's body hit Risa, it's head swiped clean away by Aaron's sword, she shoved it backwards, and in the process lost her footing. Swerving as she fell, she hit the marble flooring with an explosion of pain. Hot pressure bubbled behind her eyes, fading the world out for a terrifying moment. A moment she didn't have, because all too soon another creature hurled past her and connected with a nearby maid. Her screamed filled the hall, then were quickly subdued.
Grabbing her sword, Risa forced herself to her feet in haste. Blinking through the distorted vision which now impaired her sight.
She met the next corpse in a flurry of steel, pushing the brunt of it through the plaque's chest. It squirmed, skewered by her sword, yet didn't fall.
Risa jumped back, her sword still logged in it's chest. "What is this??" She gasped in horror.

message 57: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron was just as shocked as Risa when the monster didn't drop dead from a well placed stab through the chest. "Impossible!!" He shouted, slicing another through the head. "Pull your blade, go for the head!" He shouted to everyone. Not knowing if any were left other than Risa.
"We need to retreat. They will overcome us here!" He said starting to back up towards his window. He continued hacking and slashing away at the undead people he once knew. "Hurry now. Out the window!" He said knowing full well that there was shrubbery below.

message 58: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments For once, Risa obeyed his command without thought. Dashing to the window, she gripped it's edge and pried it upwards. As it shook, then loosened, allowing her to push it open a body slammed into her from the left. She yelped, tumbling with the body to the floor as fingers dug into her arms. Acting instinctively, she punched upward making contact with a skull. It rolled off her, more shocked by the blow than anything else. Risa's eyes then focused on the features of the figure beside her. It was one of the maids, her jaw hanging off loosely. Dark blood smeared across her face.
Risa screamed, kicking herself backwards from the figure. How fast did this plaque spread? Her heart hammered painfully in her chest, tears shimmering in her eyes. She forced herself to her feet as the maid charged at her again, and dove just in time to avoid another crash with the demonized girl.

message 59: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron quickly noticed the dead maids getting up and joining the army of people that were already trying to devour them. "No..." He said simply. He continued slashing and hacking away at limbs and skulls. "Risa, Out the window!" He said cutting down another maid. "Hurry!" He said now shouting. He was getting tired, and his blade becoming more and more dull from the repeated use.

"Either get out this window, or join them. I'm not waiting much longer!" He said trying to urge her away from danger. He punched the window out the rest of the way, so that he could fit after she went through. The window wasn't all that large. He quickly judged the drop and went back to fighting. "Please."

message 60: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa moved back hastily, then glancing over at him nodded. "Come down in one piece, okay?" With sweat and blood coating her fatigued arms, she had no energy to antagonize him. It wasn't the time either, they were both going to die if she wasn't fast.
Stepping onto the ledge, she jumped out into the darkness. The air whooshed around her, and she landed in a rustle of leaves. Looking up, Risa tried to make out the form of Aaron jumping as well but couldn't see him. Come on... She pleaded internally.

message 61: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron chopped down a few more before leaping out of the window himself. "Run!" He said right before hitting the ground. He landed a lot harder than she did. He was heavier in the first place, but on top of that, He hadn't had a chance to take off his armor yet.
Once he regained his composure, a few of the undead flopped out of the window and smashed into the ground beside him. "Quickly!" He said taking her hand and leading her away from the place he once called home.

message 62: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa ran with him, clutching his hand as they made their way from the mansion. It seemed like an eternity that they ran, Risa's breath becoming short and breathless. Aaron's grip was firm, and deliberate. She could feel the callouses there, presumably from constant rubbing against a sword. "Where are we going?" She eventually managed, impressed at how much endurance he had. Could he run forever like this?

message 63: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments He slowed down to a fast walk once they reached the outside of town. "It obviously isn't safe within the city limits. "But if we are to survive we need shelter, food, water and whetstones." He said naming the basics. "Do you know of anyplace near here that we could gather such items? I don't want to risk going back there without absolute need."

message 64: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments "My village," Risa offered after a moment of thought. "If the plaque hasn't reached them, it's only a few hours from here. We could get what we need, and take shelter."

((Internets going to go off in a second, so goodnight! Also, I'll be at work tomorrow so I'll be on later in the evening. (Not sure what that is in your time, xD) ))

message 65: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments (( Goodnight! ))

message 66: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron agreed and began walking away from the place he grew up. The place that raised him. The place that prepared him for a day like this.

message 67: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments ((Annnddd, never mind. I'll be here for the rest of today, but won't be able to RP consistently until the weekend. Oh, also, is it alright if I throw in plot twists? I had some idea's last night, and I think I'll toss them in if your okay with it.))

They arrived at the crest of Risa's village at dusk, having walked through the night and well into the day. They were both exhausted, as well as famished. Occasionally Risa would glance over at Aaron to make sure he was still prodding along, and despite his weathered appearance, he always would be. This was a surprise to her, as she'd always assumed nobility or richer folk incapable of enduring harder conditions.
As they walked through the village now, it hit Risa just how impoverished this place looked. With the dirt paved roads and brick houses with straw roofs, it didn't seem like much at all.
"Over there," Risa announced hoarsely, gesturing towards a path leading them further away from the village.
It took them to a small cottage, surrounded by endless fields crusted in a rickety wooden fence.
Moving towards the house, Risa pushed open the font gate, leaving it open for Aaron to follow her through.

message 68: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments (( Just do it, Lol. I love plot twists. Don't run them by me. xD And if you have to do a time skip, do it. I don't freak out like most. lol ))

message 69: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments ((Oh sweet! That is awesome then, xD I'll throw them in as we progress. Time skips are also awesome, I'm super relieved you don't mind those! xD))

message 70: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron followed closely behind Risa, making sure that no one was following them. He closed the gate behind them, walking into the endless fields with Risa. Aaron sheathed his sword slowly, after all this time, carrying it was beginning to really tax his arms. "Is this where you live?" He asked seeing much worse in the wars that he had already fought in. "I'm surprised you aren't making it quite well..." He said noticing some crops here and there.

message 71: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa looked over at him, distracted by her own thoughts. "M-my house?" She asked blankly for a moment, then seemed to regain herself. "Yeah, I used to live here. My family does well during the harvesting season, but it isn't enough to carry us through the rest of the year-"

"Rae?" A male voice interjected, the figure having been leaning against a tree to their left.

(((view spoiler)))

message 72: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron quickly drew his sword and pointed it at the man. "Who are you?" He shouted getting rather defensive for no reason. He put his arm in front of Risa and pushed her behind him slowly. "Identify yourself!" He said fearing the plague may be able to talk now.

message 73: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments The man put his arms up smoothly, moving with a grace uncommon to farm folk. "Easy now," he said in a deep, and gravely voice. "I mean you no harm. Is that Rae over there?" He asked, motioning towards the girl beside Aaron. A turmoil of emotion played across Risa's face, her mouth half open as though she were about to speak. However, nothing came out.

"So, you return at last then, with a man as well. Impressive little bird." The man smiled, extending a hand out towards Aaron. "I'm Illian, Rae's brother."

message 74: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments "I'm Sir Aaron Black. Knight of the village of Rockwell." He said sheathing his sword and meeting the strangers hand with his own. He shook twice firmly before letting go and moving away from 'Rae'. "So Rae.. Huh?" He asked looking towards Risa.

message 75: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa scowled at him, failing to think up a clever come back. Looking towards Illian, she addressed him in a humorless tone. "I thought you'd gone away? Across the sea's or something."

"And I thought you'd gone off to be a maid," Illian chuckled, a fond grin coming to his lips. "We've missed you here." Looking at Aaron, he let his hand fall back to his waist. "What brings the pair of you back here?"

message 76: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron sighed and knew he was going to absolutely sound crazy but... Honesty is the best policy. "There is a plague... A terrible, terrible plague. It makes a mere man crave flesh... while his own decays..." He said trying to explain it without going overboard.

message 77: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments (( Do you want to start controlling 2 characters a piece? ))

message 78: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments ((Sure, throw in whoever/whatever you'd like! I'll go with it xD))

message 79: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments (( Not yet. Haha, Let's play this out for just a bit longer.))

message 80: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Illian cocked an eyebrow, an expression vaguely similar to Risa's. "I see," he seemed to accept it without any reserve. "I've heard rumors in the village of a strange sickness which has taken over the main castle, your story only confirms that." Looking up, he observed the sun in the sky. Seeming to be gauging how much daylight they had left. "Come in, there's food left over from yesterday. You can sleep, and then we can discuss this further."

message 81: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments ((Sounds good!))

message 82: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments "Thank you for the hospitality. It's good to know kindness runs somewhere in your blood." He said giving a glare to Risa. He then followed Illian towards the cottage.

message 83: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments It took all Risa's willpower not to roll her eyes as she followed Aaron inside. Storming man.
The cottage was simple, with a table in the middle of the a square room and overhang where the beds were arranged. A ladder led up to that on the far right of the room.

Illian went to a set of cupboards, and took out a roll of bread and hunk of cheese. Setting those on the table, he started pulling out potatoes and dicing them on a side table. "Go ahead and eat, I'll make us some real dinner in the meantime."

Risa moved over to Illian instead, and pushing up her sleeves took the knife from him and began chopping the potatoes herself. "It's just you then, is it? Zane, and Mikah? They left?"

"Dad's death wasn't easy on them, they left a few weeks after you." Illian responded in a passive voice, his eyes lingering across Risa's face.

"I'll do this," she told him, without looking up. Almost avoiding his gaze.

"I'll go fetch some water from the back, Aaron- make yourself at home. It's an honor to have such a high ranking official at our table, if there is anything I can do for you- just ask."

message 84: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments "All you have offered, Is all I will accept" Aaron said politely. He lived alone, so he was used to everything being just handed to him. But this was not his home. This was some middle of nowhere run down shack. But that didn't deter him from acting proper.

message 85: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Illian stepped from the cottage, the door rattling shut behind him.

Risa pulled out a pot, and began dumping the potatoes in it. She glanced over at Aaron, starting the conversation. "I plan to leave in the morning, Illian will get the town together and start an evacuation. There aren't very many here." Unsure of how to continue, she asked simply, "If you wanted to come with me, I could use an extra swordsman. You were trained well."

message 86: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments "Well trained? Judging by everything I have seen of this place so far... I'm guessing I'm the only one trained. I will follow you sure. But if you expect me to risk my life, for those who are not my kin. You are out of your damned mind Risa." He said making a harsh direct eye contact with the young maid.

message 87: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments "We're agreed then," Risa replied, staring straight back into his eyes. Her own brilliant green ones glittered in the fading light from a barred window. "And contrary to your poor judgement, just because we don't live in marbled halls doesn't mean we have no trainers. Who do you think makes up the army? Nobility?" She smirked at him, continuing her preparation of the food.

message 88: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments "Nobles don't do anything." He stated looking at her. Giving her an answer she wanted to hear. "But I'm not noble. I'm a knight. I bathe in blood, sweat and tears. No noble man would dare claim the same." He said standing up and entering the small kitchen.

message 89: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa snorted, ignoring the fact that he'd moved into a closer proximity. Pushing a few pieces of wood into the stove, she quickly lit it and set the large kettle over the burner. "Perhaps," she replied without much conviction, making it clear she didn't believe him. Scooping up a nearby rag, she whipped her hands with it, still turned away from Aaron.

message 90: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments (( If I wasn't so against hitting women... Risa would know her place... Haha. For it was proper to beat women in this time ;) ))

message 91: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron gritted his teeth, strongly resisting the urge to beat her within the walls of her own home. "Perhaps..." He repeated walking back over to the poor excuse of a dining room table. He sat down and grabbed a piece of bread, tearing away at it with malicious intent.

message 92: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments ((LOL, she keeps pushing his buttons. I couldn't be surprised! I think this scene is pretty much over, shall I time skip?))

message 93: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments (( Do as you will! ;) You already do anyway! haha ))

message 94: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments (( Okay then! ))

Risa was up well before the sun crested the mountains, having slept fitfully throughout the night. It was just as before, the savage glint behind his eyes. Yet, it was stilled by the presence of Aaron. Unknowingly to him, Risa hadn't left his presence since they'd arrived. Remaining close enough that if she were to scream, he would hear her. Not that he would help, but Illian would be ruined, and that would be better then being shielded from his fist. It wasn't a surprise to her that her siblings had all left this place. After the death of their father, and Risa's abandonment of the cottage, Illian would have grown bored.

She leaned her back against the jagged brick behind her, waiting for Aaron to appear. A bag was slung across her shoulder, and she wore a fresh gown. The soft material was of some comfort to her, after having been tramping across the country side in a night gown.

message 95: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron had a pack of random items in a cloth sack that hung over his shoulders. He walked into the room where Risa was staying, and began speaking. "We should go now. This is the closest town outside of the main city. This will be the first place that the plague will reach. Make sure to gather your things, and the village. But mark my words, I. Will not. Help them." He said walking right out the way he came in.

message 96: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa moved after him, her own back slung at her side. "Not that I'm particularly interested, by why the keen refusal to help innocent people?" she queried, questioning his repeated statement on the matter. Her hair hung about her, a dark wreath complementing her pale complexion.

message 97: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments Aaron smiled and sighed. "Why should I risk my life trying to protect a bunch of people who I don't know? I have to waste my time and safety, making sure they don't get eaten, as well as make sure I don't get eaten." He said shrugging and drawing his sword.

message 98: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments Risa kept the angry tidal wave of thoughts to herself, noting that although she'd been able to challenge him up to this point, an actual critique of his values wouldn't be one of them. "If that's what you really think, so be it." She walked ahead of him, bringing up the lead.

At that moment, Illian stepped into their path fully dressed with a sack of his own. "You guys heading out this early? I thought you'd at least give me a warning," he said mostly directed to Risa.

message 99: by Takeo (new)

Takeo Dai (takeodai) | 271 comments "Sorry. I didn't even know other people would be coming. That wasn't the plan." Aaron said slightly pushing past Illian. He didn't want to hurt him, He was trying to get Illian to be mad at Risa. Maybe he would be able to shut her up.

message 100: by Lyndsey (new)

Lyndsey | 212 comments "It wasn't the plan," Risa said slowly, a hint of irritation running into her voice.

Illian's eyes glittered, his grin mirroring their chilling intentions. "Well, since Aaron seems to be the one in charge, maybe I should have asked him." Turning away from Risa, he took on Aaron instead. "So, what say you my lord? Do you have room for another voyager on your flee from this plaque?"

That set Risa on edge, her fits clenching at her sides. She'd strangle the pair of them. Or perhaps just take another route. Why was she sticking with them anyway? There was nothing keeping her with them, other than obligation to her former master. Though the boundaries of that had faded from her mind the moment the creatures invaded his home.
