My thoughts! (4 chapters in)
I'm actually pretty liking what I read so far. The language used is different than what I usually read, as this book did come out quite a few decades ago. It took me time to actually read and absorb in order to understand the scenario and setting.
First Impressions of the Characters ~
Jem: I kind of get a feel that Jem is a responsible, pretty chill, and open-minded person. There is a little bit of the older sibling pride that I sensed.
Scout: ooh she's very interesting. She's boyish, bold and adventurous, yet also very smart and somehow stubborn. I feel like she's also pretty mature!
Miss Caroline- Now, I might be wrong but I didn't like her! She sounds very bossy, annoying, and petty to me.. It also seems that she's a self-proclaimed know-it-all. Oh, not to mention kind of judgemental?
----- Something I found interesting was the parent-children relationship so far. Scout and Atticus are on a first name basis which is fairly uncommon among parents and children.
Character's language: Perhaps it's true to their Southerners style, there are quite a few slang and lots of contractions with a bit of attitude here and there.

More thoughts <3 (9 chapters into the book)
Sigh, I really hate the amount of discrimination against the African Americans in the book, but oh well :( ...
I really enjoy the build-ups to the exploration of the Radley house. I love the mystery around Boo Radley! Can't wait to unravel the truth :D

I think that overall, Atticus is different from everyone else, as a parent or father, he is unique in his own ways and even wise. This may be the cause of many upcoming events in the novel.
While I read this book, I seriously connected with the main character, Scout. Her adventures and problems were something we face to this day. One example of this is when she faces discrimination when playing with her older brother, Jem and his friends. She is a character who we are familiar with as readers, but not quite so.
